Info on diet deception

Jenny Craig sent this email to me and I thought it had some good info on what to do when we fall off the wagon.

So, you were a little unfaithful to your diet. It's cool, everyone cheats a little. Now you have to decide how to get back to being loyal to your goals. Try keeping tabs of good days and bad ones with the Online Journal. As you write, keep these tips in mind:

1. Don't dwell - Rather than feeling guilty and worrying about how you can ever make up for the triple-burger, or entire pie you ate, forgive yourself and try to figure out what went wrong. If you keep beating yourself up, you'll be less motivated to get back on track.

2. All or nothing - This approach to weight loss never works. Everyone slips once in awhile. Remember we are going for progress, not perfection. Set reasonable goals for yourself and try following a plan that will work with your lifestyle. Jenny's CuisineTM has a great variety of choices to help you succeed.

3. Be prepared - Be sure to have plenty of sensible snacks on hand when you know you're going to be faced with temptations like your mom's famous cookies, an office birthday or if you get taken out to a ball game. Some great choices include nuts, baked chips and dried fruit.

Excellent advice! This is good advice, no matter what weight loss program you follow.

Again, I will echo what the other reply said: excellent advice!

I have thrown away the idea of being perfect on a diet because, guess what, I know I never will be! However, having said that, I have decided that this time I am going to go into this with the idea that I will NOT give up no matter what!

I do keep a detailed food diary and I highlight in bold foods that are mostly high fat or choices I might reconsider. I make sure though that I am eating a very balanced food plan. I have found that by doing that I do not have the same cravings as I might have without doing that. I eat my favorite foods every day. However, if you looked at my favorites you might be surprised that they do NOT include fast food or a lot of processed foods. I like fiber, whole wheat, sweet fruits and lots of legumes. The way I prepare them they are and will always be delicious to me.

I do take a supplement, Chromium Picolonate, which has been very helpful in curbs cravings for sweets. I do allow myself something sweet each day but only a very small portion. I try to go for the tiniest size I can manage.

When I really feel the craving, I will eat 4 large marshmallows. They are 100 calories/0 fat/0 fiber but they are so sweet and take more than a few minutes to eat that they really cut a craving down to its manageable size.

Thanks for the tips, way to go!:D

I havent heard of Chromium Picolonate, How much is it? I wouldnt mind trying it to cut down on my cravings. The last few days I have really been craving carbs.

I tried eating the marshmallows too when I wanted something sweet. It worked for a while.

you know, i'd have say one of the key factors in my "success" so far is the changing of my mindset from the "all or nothing" to the "hey i can do better on THIS meal than I did at the last one" when I mess up!!!

MY WHOLE DIETING life I've thought "well i screwed up and had mcdonald's today so i MIGHT AS WELL EAT A PINT OF ICE CREAM" it doesn't matter now i've already wreckedthe day!! omg i want to back and HUG that poor deluded girl LOL

I've slowly gotten better over the past year, putting each meal into it's own little category of "it is what it is" and move on -- if it's good, great, let's do it again......if it's horrible let's focus on the next meal.

good advice jenny craig!!!
