Oh do tell... Please...

I am not suppose to have "table salt" or "salt with iodine" but I can have as much sea salt as I want.

Unfortunately Sea Salt chips are almost always done in the wrong oil, or with vinegar. *le sigh*

I would totally make a trip south if need be to get salt free chips for the occasions when I want them.

In my kitchen, we call that "gazpacho" *laughs*

Um, let me think. It was a red and white bag, and called something like Home Cooked, and they had a salted and unsalted variety. I believe they were a small company in the midwest. I thought I saw some in the grocery stores here in Wisconsin too, so if I see them, I'll post the brand here.

I did find this website page

Also, Terra Chip brands have some varieties that are pretty low in sodium. I think one of the yukon gold varieties is a low salt. I love the Terra Chips, but they're so expensive. I bought some recently that were a red white and blue mix of beets, sweet potatoes, and blue potatoes with sea salt. Very good.

So yes, not drinking my calories to me means avoiding sugar drinks, sugar in my coffee, and sugar in my tea (hot and cold).

For me, "not drinking my calories" means cutting back on beer and wine, and switching to lower-carb drinks like vodka, or cutting out alcohol altogether. I'm not one for sweets like soda or sugar in my tea, so that's not really a problem for me.

I'm kind of LOVING the idea of putting it in SOUP!!! I've found that my veggie soup (mostly chicken broth, a tin of tomatoes and then a gajillion veggies) was lacking a little something! I thought maybe a squoosh of tomato paste could help but I think I'll try some tomato juice or V8 in it :D

thanks

lol, that was my first thought too when she was telling me, but she thins it down A LOT more than that, and blends all the texture out.

She tried to get me to try some once, but it smelled rather...garlic-y....so I pretended not to hear her and went to another room.

Actually... After reading through them all... I think I want Dirty Potato Chips! http://www.dirtys.com

I am going to email them to ask about their seasoning ingredients... It is fine for this household that they are done in Peanut Oil. :carrot:

I've tried that brand and they were really good. I thought the name was funny.

This has calories, but also vitamins, protein, calcium, etc. V8 too has calories, but not many and lots of other good stuff. I love soup or broth when it's cold out too. Why are people avoiding these types of things?

For me it usually does mean only water to drink. I prefer water to other beverages, generally. Occasionally (maybe once a week) I will have a diet soda or a glass of crystal light. I use a little skim milk in my oatmeal but I don't drink milk anymore. I don't find it filling enough for the calories, personally. I can get protein and calcium as well as any added vitamins from other sources as well as skim milk. And as a beverage, I would still be thirsty after only one cup.

I do eat soup that is broth based. Personally I don't care for just plain broth.

You know, we all have to find what we can and can't live without. For me, it's no sacrifice to decide that I don't want V8, or that tomato juice is something I only have occasionally, or that I don't want skim milk as a beverage. For you, it may be a sacrifice that you're not willing to make.

The name amused me as well...

Now I just need someone in the US to phone their 1800 # to ask for their direct # so I can call them to ask questions. LOL! They have the country specific cap on... But I have friends in the US who would forward it on or bring it to me.

Thanks, jtammy, and synger and bill, I was just curious. I think I'm following a different plan than most others here, and it works for me, but not for everyone I'm sure. For instance, the potato chips being discussed here would not be okay for me, no matter what the oil or salt is. I'm glad I've found something that works for me so far and I hope everyone here has too, no matter what that plan is, as long as it's healthy. It's interesting to read about the different things people do. Sometimes I read things that I want to try out too. My impression is that the most successful people here aren't following a particular plan to the letter, but have combined things that they've found work for them. But you're right, I drink a lot of water too, but I wouldn't want to give up the V-8 or milk, I think they help me a lot.

Trazey, V-8 is yummy for a soup base, but just remember it does already have a lot of salt, so you'll probably want to reduce any added salt you usually put in.

Sara, thanks for the idea of "homemade" V8~~interesting!!! BTW we have a cat named sarah and we called her trisaratops when DS was going through his dinosaur obsessed stage....LOL

I'll drink V8 occasionally, I add pepper and a dash of hot sauce to it and can drink it fast.....then I found the spicy v8 and it's TOO spicy for me. It numbs my tongue....But have seen recipes that have spicy V8 in tomato sauce, it kicks it up a bit. I like the idea of putting it in soups too, sounds good.

As for drinking calories, I'll drink milk and v8 but maybe not the amount of calories that's in say, a smoothie. Though I've been known to drink protein shakes when I'm in serious workout mode.

xJox 10-23-2007 11:11 PM

I love V8 and use it instead of tomato juice in TONS of recipes.

SuchAPrettyFace 10-28-2007 10:21 PM

I buy the no salt added store brand vegetable juice. It rocks my socks. :) I don't drink it often, but for a day you need a quick gulp of something before going out the door, it serves its purpose then I am already ahead on the vegetable servings.
