I am staying on plan today because I want to be healthy. My nuclear family; mom, dad and sister are all having health issues these past few years. I see that as a wake up call for me to take better care of myself. I have been both gently prodding and praying that my sister will quit smoking. She was recently diagnosed with COPD and she smokes several packs of cigarettes a day. She is having a hard time quitting. I told her this past Saturday: don't give up trying---I have plans for us for our retirement when we get old and I plan on you being there.
My mom has been working with a R.D. on learning how to count carbs as a diabetic. I sent her a carb counter that she can carry in her purse. She controls her diabetes with her diet and pills. No insulin yet. She has lost weight as a result. I tell her how proud I am of her in how hard she is trying.
Now, to just get my Dad walking. He needs to for his PAD (clogged arteries in his extremeties) but he's almost 80 and he doesn't understand why people walk for the sake of walking. He's from the old-school where you only walked if you wanted to get from one place to another. I told my mom she should give him a short grocery list and then tell him he needs to walk to get it.
I am 1000 miles away so I have to do a lot of coaching over the phone!
Ask any one who is sick---without your health what else is there???
