New sizes!

  • So last night my friend Jamia was pretty insistent that my size 18 jeans were too big.

"They aren't staying up Gretchen. Seriously, come over to my house. I've got some old size 16 jeans that don't fit me anymore that you should try on. You can have them."

I didn't get any hopes up. I mean, I just don't see it. I've been an 18 for so long now that I just assume I'm still an 18 and ignore the fact that I keep having to adjust my pants. Okay, so maybe they're a little big now but.. I'm totally not small enough for a SIXTEEN yet!

We get there and I pick them up and look at the waste, "Oh Jamia, these will never get up over my thighs..."

    "Just try them."

So I pulled them up. But wait, get this: They went over my thighs! And then they zipped up. AND BUTTONED!

Okay, so maybe I am a 16 now. I'm absolutely floating on air!

  • That's so great! I'm still wearing my 20's, but I can take them on and off without unzipping or unbuttoning, just keep cinching that belt. I don't want to buy new jeans until I can buy 16's. Sounds like it's already time for you to do some shopping!
  • No, not time for shopping yet. Fortunately I got free 16s from my friend, but I want to hold off on spending some money until I'm down another size, too!
  • Yay! That's awesome!!

And I think you're right -- hold off on shopping. I was only in 16 for about five minutes before I could buy 14. I was in 18 forever but after that it was smooth sailing all the way to the 10 and 8 stuff I'm buying now. You'll be down another size in no time at all!!
  • Woo hoo, how exciting!! I think I loved watching the sizes go down as much if not more than watching the scale go down. It was something you could actually touch, know what I mean? As tempting as it is to shop, I agree with Lisa that you'll probably want to hold off for a bit longer. I zinged through all of the teen sizes so fast that it wasn't worth spending the money on them. I would have a pair of pants for a week or so and they would already start getting loose on me. Seek out some of the local thrift stores, sometimes you can find some really great stuff cheap enough that you won't mind if it only fits your for a short time. Keep up the good work!
  • That is cool! I am soooo happy for you!
  • Congratulations. You need to do some shopping it seems.

  • Congrats!! I am holding off on buying new pants right now too. It took FOREEEEEVER to go from 18W to 16 Misses - but I went from 16 misses to 14 misses before I got my money's worth on new pants. I bought a couple of pair of 12s at goodwill. They're a little tight but I'm not buying anymore 14s.
  • yay!! congratulations!!!!!!!!
  • I love this talk of zipping through sizes! Congratulations on getting so small, Gretchy! What a fun way to find out, too. Sometimes it seems as though others notice the changes before we do.
  • That is terrific!! I have many brand new 16's hanging in my closet just waiting for me and I can't wait till I can get them on with ease.
  • Gretchen, that is sooooo awesome! Good for you!

I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who stayed in a size 18 forever... I've lost 29 pounds and am still wearing the same size 18W jeans that I wore when I started dieting 3 months ago. They fit me a little different, but I'm still 2-3 inches in the tummy away from being able to button the size 16W I have in my closet. When I consider that I've lost more than 25% of my weight loss goal, I've been wondering how I'm ever going to be a size I'm happy with at goal weight. You've all made me feel a bit better.
  • Congrats, that is just awesome! I know those 16s felt so GOOD!
  • Congratulations. I am in between size 20 and 18 right now. some of my stuff is 18 and some are 20's cant wait until I never have to see the number 2as the fiest number in my size again..
