  • Hi there,
I am new to this website but I am not new to trying to escape from obesity. I have been trying for over 10 years now. I am 38, and it is time I took control of my life, so here I am. I have lost 10 pounds so far, and now I am 268 pounds. I really, really want to get this weight off, so I hope to find and give support on this forum. I hope I can keep up, it seems like a very active board! I would love to hear tips on what works best for you guys. For me, the key was getting the junk out of the house and filling it with fresh fruits and veggies instead.

I will come back and post more later. Here is my weight loss blog if anyone is interested:

Welcome Lyn! We started off about the same weight so we can have fun tracking our progress! The forums here are great. I've gained so much knowledge and am inspired everyday. LOL you can spend hours reading through threads! Enjoy!
  • Lyn! And, congratulations on your 10 pounds loss.

A couple of things that have worked for me....removing all junk from the house, eating more protein and veggies and eliminating processed sugar and high fructose corn syrup from my diet.

Looking forward to getting to know you.
  • Love your blog. This site is wonderful for support you'll love it here.
  • Welcome!
  • Lyn, you and I were about the same weight starting out. I too, lost 10# then gained back 5#, just today have lost that 5# again. I hope to keep the scale going in the right direction from now on--I am so weak when it comes to sugar--my addiction. Congrats on your recent weight loss and keep going--perhaps we can keep in touch and make it easier for both of us.
  • Thanks so much for all the encouragements and comments on my blog too! I figured I can vent that way and keep track of my progress too. I LOVE this forum. I have been reading lots of threads but not posting yet. I am learning so much from everyone.
I have 5 kids so it is very hard for me to get the junk out of the house, but the real culprit is my husband. He stocks the house with junk constantly. He buys candy bars by the CASE and those huge muffins from Costco, and lots of bags of chips. I try and talk to him but he just keeps buying it. He has said he is not attracted to skinny women, too. Well, he is gone for a few weeks out of town so I have gotten rid of all the junk and am doing great. My kids are not even really complaining, either. They are eating more fruit now. But I am not sure how it will go one DH gets home. I am fighting for my life here.
  • Yay!! Nice to meet you. I love your attitude, and congrats on your progress so far!!
  • Welcome, Lyn! Glad you're here!

As for DH...if he's as frugal as my DH he'll quit buying all that stuff when you keep throwing it away! hahaha It only took a week or so of DH replacing the crap before he finally said "where is (fill in the blank)" and I responded "I threw it away. I told you I couldn't have it around right now and I mean that."

As for your DH not being attracted to skinny women. He'll have to get over it. Don't let his tunnel vision be your sabotage. I'm sure he's going to be attracted to you no matter what you weigh. That's how love works.
  • Hi Lyn!!! I'm so glad that you are here.

I kinda love what Tricia said about your hubby and tossing out the goodies.

Is it possible that you can sit down with him and have a very honest and frank discussion with him about ridding your home of candy and all that other junk? It really has nothing to with being attracted to "skinny" women or not. It's about health. Can you tell him how important this is, not just for you but for your ENTIRE family? What good is it doing your 5 children? It benefits no one. Junk food is meant to be eaten once in a while and in small portions. It's best left out of the home entirely. There are great, delicious snacks your kids can munch on and come to love. My kids have. And they're almost ancient already. I have 3 teenagers. How I wish I would have started this healthy eating while they were young.
