The Little Things

You know those days that just start off on the wrong foot? I'm having one of those days today. I've decided to take a minute to think about the little things that make me smile this morning.

The first cup of morning coffee....the most delicious of all.
The morning sunshine shining across my desk.
The blooming petunias in my window boxes.
The peace and quiet of the house now that the sweethearts have left for school.

What makes you smile right now?

Your post for starters!!!

I'm so sorry that you're having a lousy start to the day. I surely hope that the rest of your day goes much better. Kudos to you for you for looking for the good things in spite of the - not so so good. That is surely a great way to change the outcome of your day.

My little things are:
Making it to work safely.
Hubby making it to work safely.
Thankful that I have a wonderful place to work.
Air Conditioning.

Enjoy the day!

My little thing for today was the phone call that my new washer and dryer will be delivered later today. Yay! (If anyone had told me 10 years ago I'd ever be this excited about major appliances, I would have laughed at them.)

Good idea for a thread. (I've been rather negative today, so I'm forcing myself to think positive) So, this made me smile:

- the blue heron standing in the river this morning.
- the group of cheerleaders at the park, warming up for morning practice.
- the thought that at least it is Thursday and not Monday!
- coffee... just like Rhonda... such a comfort!

My little happy thoughts--

-I had a healthy breakfast this morning
-I had my 1st annual review at my job and it went well
-I have just regained contact w/ a couple old friends and we are making plans to meet in the coming week. One I have not seen in 6 yrs and two I have not seen in 2 years.

I'm not playing. I thought today was Friday, the day my husband comes home for the weekend, and it turns out it's only Thursday. So I'm going to wallow in my foul mood.

Of course it does give me an extra day to get the house in order; the husband is a neat freak and I'm really, really not. Neither are the three dogs or they'd try a lot harder to keep their hair attached to their bodies and not my floor.

Good thread! It's so important to stop and be thankful.

I'm happy that my cold is almost gone - I hate summer colds :(
Being able to see the sun shine on the lake on my way to work!
Working 5 min. from home and having great co-workers.

Thanks Rhonda!

I love seeing my daughter as she just randomly walks around the living room. She's 15 months old and for the past month she has been walking. She's so adorable....just waddling around the house with her big diaper bum. It's like heaven when I look at her.

I have sooo many things in my life to smile about, but this morning it was stepping on the scales and seeing another pound lost. I also smiled while Hula Hooping at Curves this morning. I kept the hoop going for 17 minutes. I guess it is the chubby kid in me that could never hula hoop when I was young.

-Smiling because my dachshunds are curled up beside emitting a warmth that transcends heat and turns into love.
-Happy because we are going to my favorite restaurant today (Copeland's!)and I already know what I want!
-Happy because I haven't smoked a ciggy all morning and I hope I can keep it that way this time. I honestly want to quit now that I am far enough below 200 that I shouldn't ever see it again.

Go, Mary, go!!!! :carrot:

Lessee.... things to be happy about today....

- Thrilled because I don't have a day stuffed with errands/tasks and I can focus on what I need to do to continue my weight loss journey;

- Always grateful when everyone in the household (animals included) are safe, healthy and enjoying life. Today is such a day. :dancer:

- Relieved that Oregon is outside the hot zone today and we're enjoying temperate weather. Lucky!

Waking up to the sound of the fountain outside my window.

Pulling myself out of bed and realizing my back didn't hurt anymore.

The moment the hot water kicked in during my cold shower when I was almost in tears thinking the water heater was broken (what's up with nearly 10 minutes before the hot water got there?! It's normally almost instant).

Opening my fridge and seeing a ton of lovely food after too long of letting it be practically empty.

TurboLeda 08-09-2007 04:48 PM

what a great post!!

the little things for me:
-having a loving, sweet, funny (and healthy) mother
-having healthy legs capable of taking me anywhere
-freshly washed sports bra

Gale02 08-09-2007 05:35 PM

Things that are making me smile today:

My two dopey dogs and their boundless energy. I love to watch them be so excited about everything ("A bug!!! Wow!!! Looks tasty...") It, oddly, makes me more excited about things.

The opportunity to earn a little bit of money working tonight to put toward our vacation next week.

Thinking about our vacation next week!

A (mostly) clean house

The thought of going to buy new running shoes tomorrow, I've been itching to run and I've shrunk out of mine. (To the point that they wear blisters)

Great thread, Rhonda. I needed this today.

WinterStarzz 08-09-2007 06:43 PM

Woo hoo! Go Mary! My hubby is in the same boat, trying to quit. It's tough, but you can do it!

My little thing for the day:
When I got to work today (I am a nanny), my 1y/o charge kept giving me kisses and hugs. He is typically not the lovey-dovey type. It was such a sweet, genuine thing coming from his little self. When I left for the day, he did it again. Made me smile the whole drive home. :D

I love this thread! My little things:
It's night-chorus season. Last night i opened my front windows and fell asleep listening to the bugs singing to each other.
Earliest morning sun washing across the heavily forested mountain on the other side of the ravine behind my house.
one of my favorite dogfriends brought her human pet to the gym this morning and we all fussed over each other.
Coffee!

No traffic back ups on the way to work.

Finding a dollar in my pants pocket.

:)The little thing that made me smile this morning was checking my email and finding this picture of my 16 month old grandaughter. She live in South Carolina and I'm way up here in Michigan.

wanna b thin 08-10-2007 10:52 AM

Oh, I can't post the picture. It says it is too large and I don't know how to resize it. But trust me she is adorable. LOL
