Default Losing too fast?

Hey everybody! I started my calorie counting on 7/23 at 143lbs and on today weighed in at 230lbs. Is this too fast? I read a lot of places that say you should lose no more than 2lbs a week so am I doing something wrong? I tryi to stay around 1200 cals a day but sometimes its lower. Not on purpose but I'm just trying to listen to my body and eat when I'm hungry which is weird because I used to eat ALL the time whether I was hungry or not so its different to see that my body doesn't get as hungry as I used to try to convince myself. I guess I'm asking this to you guys to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong. What rate does everyone else lose weight?

13 pounds in a week-- that is pretty speedy. When I did south beach previously I lost 10 pounds in a week. I don't think it is normal, but you do lose faster in the beginning and when you weigh more. Are you exercising? If you have started exercising and never did before that could account for it too. I would just make sure you are eating enough and exercising.. the weightloss will slow down soon enough.

I KNOW you must have meant you started at 243, but it reads like you put ON 87 pounds in a week!!!

I just wanted to give you a laugh - aren't you glad you DIDN'T?!

I have read that when you first begin your weight loss journey, diet, or whatever you want to call it, your calories should be around 1500-1600 calories, and as you loose you can bring them down.
When I began the recomendation for my weight was 1900 calories a day, well I couldn't do that, So I tried to stay under 1700 calories and have lost 38 lbs so far. I usually eat between 1400 and 1500 calores a day, sometimes a little more sometimes a little less. When I loose another 40 lbs, I guess I will have to eat closer to 1200 to get the weight off, I am not looking forward to that, as I feel good when I eat 1400 calories when I eat 1200, I get tired and feel weak.
With all this said, I guess I would give it another week or so and see if your weight loss slows down, if not I would up your calories alittle and see what happens.

I lost 11 pounds my first week on South Beach. That first big drop is pretty common and a good chunk is water. Enjoy it, keep your calories at a reasonable level and take what you can get.

I wouldn't be too concerned with those wonderful first week numbers. But please don't expect to see numbers quite like those again. In fact if you DID see those numbers week after week after week, then it might be a concern.

I've not been doing well at all, but when I did good for 2 days in a row, I lost 3 pounds.

As said many time's already, that first week, and even first couple weeks, you may see a big drop. But don't expect it to continue, you will slow down a bit.

I lost 5lbs in the first week. Not had a loss that big since but that's to be expected.

I agree, I wouldn't sweat it this week. Keep doing what your doing and see what another week brings.
