Shouldn't have gone into the kitchen

  • Last night I ate my sensible dinner of vegetable stir fry with a little rice. Then a few hrs later, something drew me into the kitchen, and I ate a peach and a tomato. I shouldn't have even gone in there! Next time I am just not going in the kitchen at all after I eat supper.
  • I understand your concern about the "draw" of the kitchen....but a peach and a tomato....not bad choices! Hopefully you can figure out what is causing the compulsion to eat but until then, keep those choices healthy and you're still better off than you were! Does that make sense? I'm not condoning eating when you aren't hungry...I'm just putting your "binge" into perspective....I hope.
  • A peach and a tomato are good for you.
  • -"Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the kitchen!"
It's funny, I turn the kitchen light off at night, it's too scarey in there.
  • Careful, that peach and tomato could be the start of a pretty slippery slope. Next thing you know you'll be snacking on squash or carrots. And you know what happens then? You get healthier.

I understand your concern about eating for no reason and being drawn to the kitchen, but big kudos for sticking to the healthy stuff.
  • Good job on your choices of food. It could have been worse. You are right to be careful about eating for no reason-- though, if it can not be resisted at least you picked fruit. Maybe stick something on your fridge. A note to yourself.. a photo.. something to resist the urge a little more when staring at the fridge door with the urge to eat. Even a little sticky note with a quote: "This too shall pass" or "You always have a choice" or "My emotions will not control me" ....things like that!
  • lol, I thought you ate the whole kitchen!!
    Great choices for food!!!

  • A medium tomato is about 35 calories and a medium peach is also about 35 calories,on the other hand a piece pecan pie is about 470.
  • You do have to control and get to the bottom of what drew you into the kitchen in the first place. Did you get enough calories in your day? Stir-fry and a little rice doesn't last very long in the stomach and having a snack in the evening isn't a bad idea. You did great choosing healthy foods to eat and need to feel good about that.

I still have a major problem with this issue but have mostly controlled it by choosing foods that are good for me. Like right now I have a slight addiction to bread & butter pickles made with Splenda. Six of those has no calories, which means 26 has no calories either. Right????

That's just the kind of math that made me the woman I am today.
  • Sad, be sure you're not just giving in to a need to beat yourself up. For lots of us, that's familiar, comfortable territory. We just cannot stand to be proud of ourselves. Or were you subconciously needing for us to reassure you that you are doing well and should NOT be beaten for any reason? I sweark sooner or later I'm going to start a thread called "Please pet me, I need it today." Anyway, dear, allow me to pet you lavishly, and tell you you did a Very Good Thing. Maybe your body NEEDED a peach and a tomato. Both are chock full of nutrition.
  • Everyone is saying great food choices so I won't repeat that. Were you hungry? If not then I understand why you have a problem with the issue of eating when you don't need to. If you were hungry maybe you should include some more fiber and protein in your dinner. I know those two things keep me full and satisfied for longer than vegetables and rice. Just a suggestion.
