Hi, I'm Erin. I have been going to the gym for two months and I've gained about 14 pounds. So it was time to try slim fast, since it's the most affordable packaged food. I have a problem with portion control so I like to get food that's portioned for me. Anyway, I was looking for a slim fast forum, didn't find it, but found y'all instead. This place seems fun so I think I'll hang around.

Hey! and Welcome! This is a great place to be. Just a word of caution on SlimFast. My dad tried it and it really makes his blood sugar whacked out. He is on the verge of diabetes anyways, but SlimFast really screwed it up worse. So, be careful if you have any type of sugar problems, ok.

Welcome to the group! you will find a lot of valuble info here so stick around. Also I just wanted to add that Slim fast threw my cusins blood sugar out of wack also, at least that's the only thing that we think could have triggered it being that it was only thing differently in her diet. Be sure to check with you Dr. first before you begin.

Welcome! Ditto on the Slim Fast. I think sugar is the second ingredient, so just be careful. But welcome nonetheless!!!

Erin, finding the "right" way, like CyberGypsy mentioned, means different things to different people. We all have different tastes, needs and wants, so naturally the plan that we pick will differ.

I think most people here at 3FC look at weightloss as something that they will have to keep at forever and ever. They also look at it as to how they can get the optimal health benefits from their chosen "diet". Therefore we try and choose a plan that we can indeed live with forever and ever. Because what usually happens with these fad type diets is once you lose the weight that you want to and get to your goal, you stop the diet. That's where the trouble usually begins. You wind up going back to your old ways before too long and the weight comes roaring back on.

Many of us here have tried to look at this as a whole new lifestyle. A whole new way of LIFE. Which usually means cutting back on portions and mostly eliminating junk food. Of course leaving room for the occasional treats. It also means ADDING in lots of good nutritious foods, like low fat proteins such as chicken breast, fish, low fat cheeses and yogurts and vegetables, fruits, whole grains and the such. So instead of ending our "diets" when we get to our goal weight, we plan to continue them - forever and ever, thus keeping the weight off. Exercise IMO is also vital to a healthy lifestyle and permanent weightloss. And somewhere amongst the journey control and discipline is learned. Along with a host of other good and healthy habits that will stay with us - for life.

You might want to check out some of the various "diet" forums here at 3FC for ideas. There's also a section on "Diet" book reviews you may find helpful. Lots of people like to come up with their own plan, taking a little bit from here and a little bit from there. Whatever you decide, we're all here to support you. Good luck. :smug:

Robin is a wise woman. Look at what she has accomplished. That speaks for itself.;) Most of us are not on a diet as she says. This is truly a change in our lifestyle. Good luck in whatever you do.

My weight loss has certainly been a journey and it is certainly a learning experience. I've tweaked my eating and exercise plans multiple times to figure out what works for me.
