Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet

Dr. Siegal’s cookie diet is not a new fad in dieting. In fact, this cookie diet has been around for over 35 years. Created in 1975 by Dr. Sanford Siegal, a renowned physician and author, it has been used by over 500,000 people to lose excess weight. The cookie diet has been profiled by dozens of newspaper, magazine and television outlets. Dr. Siegal’s cookies and shake mixes can be purchased through his website and are also available in some retail and drug stores, including GNC and Walgreens. Also, more than 2,100 physicians are prescribing the cookie diet to their patients for weight loss.

Premise of the Diet

The basic premise of this diet is that less calories need to be eaten in a day in order to lose weight consistently. Therefore, a person is supposed to replace a high caloric meal with Dr. Siegal’s hunger-controlling meal replacement cookies and shake beverage mixes, which are low in fat and calories and high in fiber and protein.

The Diet

Six of Dr. Siegal’s specially-formulated cookies are to be eaten during the day, in addition to one meal that is eaten at the end of the day. A typical day is comprised of around 800 calories and 70 grams of carbohydrates. The cookies can also be eaten in conjunction with another diet. In addition to cookies, Dr. Siegal also has a line of shake mixes that can be used as a replacement for the cookies.

Dr. Siegal’s hunger-controlling cookies contain Dr. Siegal’s proprietary amino acid mixture that is made from the blending of a variety of protein food substances. Supposedly, even today, Dr. Siegal personally mixes every batch of this protein formula with his own hands in his Miami private bakery. These cookies come in many flavors, including oatmeal raisin, chocolate, blueberry, banana and coconut. Each box of cookies contains 7 daily bags of 6 cookies each and is supposed to replace 14 meals.

Dr. Siegal’s shake mixes are an alternative to the cookies and contain the same hunger-controlling amino acid protein mixture. The mixes come in a variety of flavors, including chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, crème brulee and pina colada. They can be prepared in 60 seconds with a blender, ice and water.

What to Get Excited Over

By following this very low-calorie diet plan, a person could lose up to 15 pounds in a month. For those that are already at their goal weight, the cookies are a good replacement for other high-calorie snack foods.

Things to Consider

The cost for a weekly box of cookies or the weekly supply of shake mixes are $59.95 each. The cookies do contain milk, eggs, soy, wheat and non-vegetable protein; therefore, anyone allergic to any of these items should avoid consuming the cookies.

If following a strict diet that does not allow much variety sounds good to you, then this diet would be a good fit. Otherwise, the monotony of eating the same thing day after day could get boring quickly and cause you to stray. Also, the high expense for the weekly box of cookies or shakes is a downfall.
