Carbohydrate information seems to be the focal point of many weight loss plans or discussions about health. The problem is that with so much information out there, it can be challenging to separate the facts from the myths. So let’s make this a little easier. Here are 3 myths you need to know when it comes to carbohydrate information and carbs.

Carb Myth #1- Carbs are Created Equally

All carbs are not created equal. Slow carbs can help you sustain energy in the long run, while fast carbs can give you a quick boost. Fast carbs can easily be converted into fat, which is why it’s essential to choose the right carbs (fruits, whole grains, etc.).

Carb Myth #2-Cutting Carbs Will Make You Lose Weight

While this is partially true, it is still a myth. There are many other factors that contribute to weight loss success. Exercise, protein, vitamins, nutrients, and a balanced diet all contribute to weight loss. One change, such as cutting carbs, will not always equal better health, especially since our bodies depend on carbs as their main energy source. Once again, it’s all about choosing the right carbs!

Carb Myth #3-Fatty Foods Block Carbs

There is some carbohydrate information out there that has led people to believe that eating fatty foods can block carbs, thus fatty foods can promote weight loss. This is once again partially true, but still a myth. You need to know exactly which type of fats to eat, such as Omega 3 fatty acids (essential fats are key). Simply eating a fatty diet will not always block carbs, and consuming non-essential fats can lead to weight gain and an unhealthy cardiovascular system.
