Blood Type Diet: Sample Menu

The Blood Type Diet was created by Peter D’Adamo, who wrote the book Eat Right 4 Your Type. This diet is based on the belief that individuals who eat foods that do not combine with their blood type will experience a host of medical problems, including allergies, weight gain and infection. Each blood type receives a specific meal plan to follow for their type.

Meal Plan Type A

For breakfast, begin the meal by drinking 8 oz of water flavored with freshly squeezed lemon. For your meal, enjoy ½ cup of oatmeal prepared with 1-cup soy milk and 1 tbsp maple syrup. Enjoy this with a 4 oz cup of grapefruit juice and a 6 oz cup of coffee or tea.

For lunch, have 2 cups of lettuce topped with celery, cucumber slices, green onions and seasoned with 1 tbsp feta cheese and a squeeze of lemon juice. Enjoy this salad with an apple and 1 slice of sprouted wheat bread.

For an afternoon snack, enjoy 2 rice cakes smeared with 1 tbsp of peanut butter.

For dinner, have 2 oz of pasta mixed with 2 to 4 oz of tofu and topped with 2 tbsp of pesto sauce. Enjoy this dinner with 6 oz of frozen yogurt and a glass of red wine, if desired.

Meal Plan Type B

Begin your day with 1 cup of rice bran cereal topped with 3/4 cup of skim milk and 1 sliced banana. Enjoy with a 6 oz glass of grape juice.

For lunch, enjoy two slices of whole wheat bread topped with 1 oz of turkey deli meat, one slice of cheese and 1 tbsp mustard or mayonnaise. Enjoy this with a side green salad and a cup of herbal tea.

For a snack, enjoy a 6 oz container of fruit juice sweetened yogurt and a cup of herbal tea.

For dinner, have 4 to 6 oz of broiled fish with 1½ cups of steamed vegetables. Enjoy this dinner with 1 piece of fresh fruit and a cup of herbal tea.

Meal Plan Type AB

For breakfast, begin with a glass of water flavored with lemon juice. Then have 2 slices of toasted Ezekiel bread spread with a yogurt-herb cheese like Laughing Cow. Enjoy your toast with 8 oz of diluted grapefruit fruit.

As a lunch, have 2 slice of rye bread topped with 4 oz of sliced turkey breast. Enjoy this with a side Caesar salad and 2 plums.

For your afternoon snack, have one slice of tofu cheesecake. 

For dinner, enjoy an omelet filled with tofu and stir-fry vegetables. Have this omelet with a cup of mixed fruit and red wine if you desire.

Meal Plan Type O

Begin your day with 2 slices of Ezekiel bread toasted and topped with butter. Enjoy this toast with 6 oz of tomato juice and a banana.  Type O Blood Types begin the day with a cup of herbal tea.

For lunch, have 6 oz of organic roast beef on top of a spinach salad. Enjoy this salad with pineapple or apple slices and a glass of water.

For an afternoon snack, enjoy one slice of cake with a cup of herbal tea.

For dinner, have a stew composed of lamb, asparagus, sweet potatoes and broccoli. Serve this stew with a cup of mixed fresh fruit and a beer or glass of wine if desired.
