Lipid metabolism is an important function in your body, meant to break down carbohydrates and stop the accumulation of fats. Read these tips for boosting your own lipid metabolism:
Tip 1 – Carbohydrates
The key is to eat the right type of carbohydrates in order to increase lipid digestion and decrease the accumulation of fat. Cutting out carbs altogether is not the answer. Instead, eat things like oatmeal for breakfast, green salads for lunch and increase your intake of other low starch vegetables and fruits for every meal.
Carbohydrates have had a bad rap for awhile now, but you don’t have to cut them out entirely. Just learn to eat the right kind of carbs and in moderation. Eliminate the carbohydrates that are processed or refined and find the ones that are natural (whole grains, fruit, etc.).
Tip 2 – Protein
Eating the right kind of protein is essential for boosting your lipid metabolism and maintaining your health. Some great protein choices are:
- Salmon or Tuna
- Lean Turkey or Chicken
- Lean Beef
Be sure to include some lean source of protein in every meal for optimum benefits. This will increase your fat metabolism and build muscle.
Tip 3 – Eat Often
Yes, eating more often is actually a good thing for your body. The key is to eat smaller and more nutritious meals. Instead of loading your plate for three big meals each day (with snacks in between); eat 4 to 6 smaller meals that are packed with nutrition.
Tip 4 – Breathe
Learning to breathe right can make a big difference in sustaining your metabolism. Most people pay little or no attention to how they are breathing during the day and tend to breathe shallow during exercise. This is completely contrary to what you should be doing.
Learn to pay attention to your breathing throughout the day. Stop what you are doing and take deep breaths in through your nose, hold for a few seconds and then release slowly. You will know you are breathing correctly if you lay your hand on your abdomen and feel it expand as you breathe in.
Yoga is a great method for exercising and learning to monitor your breathing.
Tip 5 – Exercise
Exercise is an answer for many health issues and boosting your metabolism is one of them. The best way to benefit from exercise is to do some interval training, and change your routine often. Be sure to include strength training for optimum fat burning. This will actually boost your metabolism during periods of rest also.
