4 Exercises to Pair with the Acid Alkaline Diet

The Acid Alkaline Diet is a diet which balances acid and alkaline levels in your body. The main idea of the diet is that in modern times (as opposed to the ancient times) humans consume much more acidic foods than alkaline foods. Acidic foods are considered to be foods of animal origin and highly processed ones. High consumption of these foods causes the body to become more acidic than alkaline and, as a result, loses its health and becomes fat. That is why Acid Alkaline Diet emphasizes restoring of the correct alkaline pH balance of between 7.35 to 7.45 in the blood by eating alkaline foods and avoiding acidic ones.

Besides eating the right foods, it is important to understand what kind of exercise will aid in achieving the right pH blood balance.

1. Aerobics

Aerobics is a good exercise to supplement the Acid Alkaline Diet because it delivers a lot of additional oxygen in the body, and oxygen helps to convert glucose to energy. As long as you stay in an aerobic state, you get great benefits of making your body alkaline and keeping pH in the healthy levels. However, if the intensity of your exercise increases and you enter an anaerobic state, the energy metabolism changes.  It is not enough oxygen anymore, and your body begins to use different mechanisms of supplying energy to your cells. That mechanism lowers blood pH, which means you are getting acidic. When you start breathing really hard, get very fatigued and become uncomfortable, it means that you are in an anaerobic state.

Aerobic exercises improve cardiovascular health, increase stamina and help burn fat. The most popular aerobic exercises are walking, running, swimming, dancing and bicycling. The most well known anaerobic exercise is weight lifting. Be aware that aerobic exercise can become anaerobic depending on the intensity (think marathons).

2. Yoga and Tai Chi

Any exercises which require deep breathing are also beneficial for those who stay on the Acid Alkaline Diet for the same reason – to increase oxygen flow in the body. It is a well known fact that the majority of people use only one third of their lung capacity, and slow and well controlled movements with an emphasis on the right breathing increases lung usage. Besides, both yoga and Tai chi improve balance, stretch muscles and build strength.

3. Pilates

The main principle of Pilates is strengthening of the whole body, with an emphasis on the core muscles, especially deep torso ones, through highly controlled and precise movements. Pilates, as well as yoga, helps build long lean muscles without overworking them. Pilates also concentrates on the deep breathing throughout the routine, which helps oxygenate the blood, thus making this type of exercise beneficial to the followers of Acid Alkaline Diet.

4. Five Tibetan Rites

This exercise routine is less known, but still very beneficial to perform while on the Acid Alkaline Diet. Five Tibetan Rites is an exercise similar to yoga, but instead of holding the poses, it concentrates on the fluid-like motion through them with deep and controlled breathing being an important part of the routine.
