On the 10 Superfoods Diet, created by Dr. Perricone, claims that by focusing on 10 superfoods, you can benefit your health and improve the quality of your skin. Here are 5 breakfast ideas that incorporate these superfoods:

1. Acai Smoothie

The acai berry is known for its antioxidants and rich nutrients. You can buy acai pulp at a really good health food store. Mix it with ice, filtered water and half a banana for a sweet morning treat. You can add some pure liquid stevia for added sweetness if needed.

2. Crunchy Yogurt Surprise

Plain nonfat or 2% yogurt is an excellent way to get probiotics, calcium and protein without the problematic affects of other dairy products. Greek yogurt products are a good place to start, or you can choose plain goat yogurt if you are particularly sensitive to dairy. Choose a product that has no added sugar, honey or fructose. Mix together a half cup of the yogurt with a half cup of a buckwheat flake cereal. Some buckwheat cereals might have other grains such as brown rice added, but try to avoid ones that have wheat or added sugar. Add a small serving of acai juice and mix together.

3. Protein Smoothie

It’s good to get some protein in the morning to avoid blood sugar spikes. Take some acai berry juice or pulp and blend it together with organic, raw flax meal and some raw, sprouted almonds and sunflower seeds. To sprout your seeds, you’ll need to soak them in water for 3-4 hours, and then they will provide more protein. Add in a handful of blueberries for added nutrients and taste. You can even blend in some sprouts, and you’ll barely notice them.

4. Green Grits

You can sneak your greens into a hot buckwheat cereal which you can buy at most health food stores. Blend the hot buckwheat cereal with some bits of dried seaweed, finely chopped dino kale and some chives. You can add a very small amount of plain kefir for some creaminess. 2-3 drops of liquid stevia will help with a bit of sweetness.

5. Spicy Barley and Beans

In many cultures, breakfast is a hearty meal to get the digestion jump started into gear. If you’re someone who is often tempted to eat lunch for breakfast, you’ll love this. Cook some barley and blend in organic black beans, hot green or red peppers, onions, garlic and some unsweetened stewed tomatoes. You can even cook all of this together to make a stew that’s almost like a hot cereal. Sprinkle with a tablespoon of parmesan or lowfat cheese for some added protein and richness.

Starting your day with a superfood breakfast will make you feel great. With all of the balanced nutrition and rich nutrients, you’ll be on the right track for making better food and activity choices for the rest of the day.
