Wild Goose Qigong Movements And Lessons

Wild goose qigong, or dayan qigong, is composed of flowing movements combined with breathing exercises. Like many Asian martial arts, it was inspired by animal movements. In this case, those of the wild goose, which is a symbol of longevity in China.

Where Did Wild Goose Qigong Come From?

Wild Goose Qigong originated over 1700 years ago in China’s Kunlun Mountains. It was passed down from teacher to student for many generations before it became known in the West. The 27th generation link in this chain, Yang Mei-Jun, was over 80 years old when she began to teach lessons publicly in 1978. Since then this style of qigong has become popular in China and has spread to many other countries.

What Are the Benefits of Wild Goose Qigong?

There are many benefits to practicing wild goose qigong including:

  • It relaxes the body and calms the mind while building muscle strength.
  • It’s considered beneficial for digestive disorders, high blood pressure and other conditions.
  • Learning and practicing it is easy for people of all ages.
  • The most common exercise sequence takes only 10 or 15 minutes, and it is easy to fit into a hectic schedule.

What Do Lessons Entail and Where Can I Find Them?

Qigong exercises can be performed individually, but they are often joined together into a series called a form. The best-known wild goose form consists of 64 movements. Expect lots of “wing flapping” arm movements, bending, stretching, and body turning.
