Medical researchers have been trying to prove which cancer fighting foods are most effective for years. The truth is that while research has proven that some foods help to fight certain types of cancer, there are no known foods that can completely prevent or cure cancer. There are, however, some foods that have been proven to be more helpful than others in the cancer battle.
Following are foods that medical research has proven to be helpful in the prevention and fight against cancer:
Whole grain foods including whole grain pasta, whole grain bread, brown rice and barley are known to contain powerful antioxidants that are not found in fruits and vegetables. They also contain B vitamins, vitamin E, magnesium, iron and fiber. High fiber diets have proven to be helpful in fighting cancer.
Berries and Grapes
Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries are all rich in antioxidants. They are all as good for you as they are delicious. Cancer patients should shop for organic berries. Blueberries are the best source of antioxidants.
Cabbage, kale, cauliflower and broccoli are rich in antioxidants and packed full of vitamins A and C, calcium, iron and fiber. Cruciferous vegetables are most beneficial when eaten raw. If you need your cruciferous vegetables cooked, try lightly steaming them because vegetables lose nutrients when they are cooked too long (or at high temperatures). Be sure to eat your steamed veggies right away, as vegetables also lose their nutrients if they are not eaten soon after they are steamed.
Cod and salmon are excellent sources of lean protein, as well as omega 3 fatty acids. The omega 3 fatty acids provide a variety of health benefits, including a reduced risk of cancer.
Black Tea and Green Tea
Tea is an excellent source of antioxidants. Tea is also better for your digestive system than coffee. While there are also antioxidants in coffee, drinking more than two cups of coffee per day is not recommended. Because tea does not cause the health problems that can result from too much coffee, you can safely drink 8 to 10 cups of black tea or green tea per day. Imagine all of the antioxidants in 10 cups of tea!
Carrot juice has been proven to help fight cancer with antioxidants from beta-carotene and alpha-carotene. Carrot juices, as well as any vegetable or fruit juices, will also help cancer patients stay hydrated, which is extremely important during chemotherapy treatments.
Cancer fighting foods can help to prevent cancer, as well as to help fight it. Cancer is so complex that it takes much more than a healthy diet to cure it, but a healthy diet may just play a bigger role in preventing cancer than science has yet been able to prove. Eating a balanced, nutritious diet with cancer fighting foods is a good way to reduce your risk of getting cancer, as well as many other health problems. A healthy diet will also help you feel your best every day.
