Toning your body during pregnancy can have quite a few advantages. Labor can be quite intensive and doing exercises for some simple toning can make the experience a little easier. In addition to labor, toning your body during pregnancy can help you during the pregnancy, particularly during the uncomfortable third trimester. Toning during pregnancy doesn’t have to be intensive either. You can do toning on your body with a simple exercise called Tailor Sitting.
What Is Tailor Sitting?
Tailor Sitting is a method of sitting that is healthy for your body and for toning for your muscles. When done properly, it causes toning of your thighs, abdominal, back and pelvic muscles. It is easy to do and can be done during a variety of activities. You can do it while watching TV, reading a book or any other time you’re sitting still.
What Are the Advantages of Tailor Sitting?
By toning your thigh and pelvic muscles, Tailor Sitting prepares your body for the flexibility you’ll need during the delivery of your baby. By toning the back muscles, Tailor Sitting helps with much needed release of tension and back pain. In addition, Tailor Sitting is the perfect position in which a pregnant mom can perform Kegel muscle exercises.
For the best toning results, you should begin Tailor Sitting as early in your pregnancy as you can. The longer you perform it during your pregnancy, the more toned and ready your muscles will be on your big day.
How to Perform Tailor Sitting
There are two different methods of performing tailor sitting. One involves legs crossed and the other does not. Perform whichever one feels most comfortable for you.
To Tailor Sit with your legs crossed, sit on the floor or a pillow with your knees bent away from you and your ankles crossed. Lean forward ever so slightly and relax. Keep your back straight at all times. That’s it! Just sit that way for at least a few minutes each day.
Doing Tailor Sitting without legs crossed stretches your muscles even more and will increase your flexibility more than doing it with legs crossed. Even if you only do crossed leg Tailor Sitting, it would be advantageous to use this method every once in awhile. Begin by Tailor Sitting with the cross legged method. Stretch your muscles by uncrossing your legs and pressing your feet together. Lean forward until your knees touch the ground and hold for as long as is comfortable. If you can’t do it the first time, don’t worry. It will come with practice. Just keep trying it every day.
By toning your muscles with Tailor Sitting everyday during your pregnancy, you can ensure that you have an easier labor and avoid complications down the road. Be careful when performing Tailor Sitting to avoid pushing yourself too far. Take your time and proceed at a pace that works for you. If you perform this exercise diligently, you’ll be pleased with the results!
