The Fast Track Detox Diet

The Fast Track Detox Diet was created by nutritionist Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman. According to Gittleman, dieters can lose up to eight pounds overnight by boosting metabolism and ridding the body of fatty toxins.

The Premise

According to Gittleman, dieters often fail to lose weight on a detoxification diet because they do not prepare their body correctly for the detox and end up overloading the body with toxins. This can lead to side effects and actually damage the metabolism.

The Diet

On the Fast Track Detox Diet, individuals will begin with a seven-day meal plan that is based around organic fruits and vegetables. According to Dr. Gittleman, these foods will help prepare the liver, digestive tract and kidney for the detoxification.

After this seven-day plan, dieters will follow a one-day fast. During this fast, dieters will consume Gittleman’s ‘miracle juice’, which is a combination of orange juice, lemon juice, cranberry juice, ginger, stevia and nutmeg. Gittleman states that this juice will help reduce hunger, boost metabolism, balance sugar levels and provide the body with necessary nutrients. Dieters are advised to drink one cup of this liquid per hour along with a cup of plain water.

In addition to the miracle juice, dieters are advised to take supplements such as flaxseed oil and psyllium husk at the beginning and end of the day. These supposedly help the colon.

Following the one-day fast, dieters will resume the original meal plan of organic fruits and vegetables for three more days.

During the entire diet, sugars, refined carbohydrates, wheat containing gluten, soy, alcohol, caffeine, artificial sweeteners and fats are considered off limits. Recommended foods include leafy green vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, limes, lemons, onions, asparagus, eggs, carrots, apples, pears, organic sauerkraut, low fat yogurt with live cultures, berries, beets, lean chicken breast and celery.

The Fast Track Detox Diet may be an excellent way for individuals to jump start their healthy eating habits and weight loss. This diet is designed around eating healthy, natural foods.

Things to Consider

This diet is extremely restrictive, and during the liquid fast, this diet is extremely low in calories. Certain individuals may find this entire diet extremely difficult to adhere to. Furthermore, dieters probably will find it difficult to eat out when on the Fast Track Detox Diet.

The supplements that this diet recommends, psyullium husk and flaxseed oil can be very expensive. In addition to these supplements, eating a diet that is composed of organic foods may be too expensive for some individuals.

Exercise

When on the Fast Track Detox Diet, dieters are advised to do no more than 30 minutes of gentle exercise during the fast day. During the other days of the diet, dieters can complete any amount of exercise that they prefer.

Verdict

Following the Fast Track Detox Diet probably will not be harmful for dieters for the short-term. This diet may help individuals experience some weight loss or help them break through a plateau. While it probably is not harmful, dieters should not believe the statement that they can lose up to eight pounds overnight.

    I’m on day 2 of this diet. So far, the food tastes wonderful, and I woke up 5 pounds lighter this morning after just one day of the diet.

    It is restrictive, and I don’t plan to eat out while I’m on the diet.

    In the long run, I wouldn’t count it as too expensive if you take in doctor bills from being overweight. Junk food is expensive, as is eating out.

    The recipes in this book can be incorporated into every day eating, so I look at it as an investment in a healthier future.
