Staying motivated to lose weight is the key to weight loss and weight management. One essential way to help you stay motivated is by goal setting. These goals are a plan of action that you can use daily. As you meet these goals, you will build confidence in yourself, and you will slowly begin seeing results.
Make a Written Plan of Action
Staying motivated to lose weight can be a hard task, and there will be days that you feel tired and lethargic. On these days, a plan of action will pull you through and keep you motivated to reach your goals.
A plan of action can be a written plan for a day, a week, or a month. This plan may be detailed down to exactly what you should eat, what time you should eat, and how much exercise you should do daily. The plan should be written out in the way that is best for you.
By making a plan of action, you have your goal setting laid out in front of you, and as you meet each goal, you can cross them off of your list. This will give you a sense of accomplishment!
Set Nutritional Goals
As you are writing out this plan of action, you should think about your nutritional needs. Nutrition plays a major part in losing weight, and we need to stay motivated to lose weight the healthy way.
Think of high energy and low fat foods that you like and will eat.  It may be foods like yogurt, certain bran cereals, fruits, vegetables, lean meats, low fat cheeses, low fat milk, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. Make a list of these items and add some healthy snack items as well. Then make sure you have plenty of these items on hand in your kitchen, ready for you to prepare.
At the same time, you may want to make a clean sweep of all the junk food in the house. It is beneficial to remove temptation, no matter how strong your willpower is.
Another key to meeting your nutritional goals (and keeping them long-term) is to not view your new way of eating as a diet. Dieting is something none of us willingly want to do, and if you call your plan of action a diet, you may be unintentionally sabotaging yourself without realizing it.
Tips on Making Your Plan of Action Work
Now that you have a plan of action and you are motivated to lose weight, how do you stay motivated, and how can you make weight control a part of your life for the future? Here are some tips that may help:
Invite a friend to help or join you. Ask this friend to make his/her own plan of action, and see if you share some of the same goals. While you are both making goals, you might  be able to share tips and exercise lessons together.
Set up a reward system for yourself. For example, once you lose five pounds, treat yourself, and don’t use food as a reward. You might want to treat yourself to a manicure, a massage, or that cute new blouse you have been eyeing. The reward method is a great way to stay motivated to lose more weight.
