Pros and Cons of the Anti-Aging Diet

To help you do this, you simply cut out unhealthy fats, sugars, and processed foods, and consume lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. There are many pros of the anti-aging diet, but there are also some cons to consider before you start this diet.

Promotes Longevity: Studies have shown that those who begin the diet in their mid 20’s can increase their lifespan by 30 percent and live to be well over a 100 years.

A Youthful Appearance: The anti-aging diet promotes plenty of healthy foods such as nuts, avocados, whole grains, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and fish to help you to stay young. The fruits and vegetables help to keep the body free from toxins which play a major role in the aging process. The healthy oils in the nuts and fish help to maintain the skin’s structure by preserving the elastin and collagen in the skin. This reduces the onset of wrinkles.

The diet also recommends that you drink plenty of water and other fluids, such as green and other herbal teas, to help keep you hydrated.

Promotes Health: The anti-aging diet can help you to avoid many degenerative diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and arthritis by getting rid of free radicals in your body.

The Cons

Hunger and Food Cravings: Because you are reducing your calories, you will naturally find yourself getting hungry a lot. This could lead to food cravings and binging which is extremely unhealthy.

Muscle Loss: A low-calorie diet, such as the anti-aging diet, can cause you to lose muscle mass and strength. You will also find your energy levels decrease, especially if you are making drastic changes in your diet.

Experts recommend that those who plan to go on the anti-aging diet reduce their calories gradually over at least 1 to 2 years in order for the diet to work. If calories are cut back too rapidly it could actually increase the aging process and reduce the lifespan.
