On this diet you can still have cooked foods as well as meat, as you do not have to go raw 100 percent of the time. She has broken the diet down into 5 easy steps to help you get started. How Does it Work?
She likens the raw food detox diet to taking out the garbage. She says in order for the cleansing to begin you simply need to put less garbage in your body each day, and replace the junk foods with healthy, high-fiber fruits and vegetables. The high-fiber fruits and vegetables will immediately begin to clean the cells of your body.
She recommends that you start your day off with raw fruit juices, and then work your way up to heavier meals as the day goes on. This ensures that you have the most amounts of energy throughout the day when it is important for you to get your work done.
All the juices and raw foods will give your body the necessary enzymes to get rid of the toxins, but if too many toxins are released, your eliminating organs may not be able to keep up. Rose recommends using colonics or enemas to help get rid of the toxins to prevent them from re-entering the blood stream. Usually, if you are young and have frequent bowel movements then you will not need to assist your body in this way.
Rose encourages proper foods combinations, so the body can eliminate them quickly. She calls these food combinations “quick exit” foods. For example, a slice of toast and avocado will only remain in the stomach for 3 to 4 hours, but toast with eggs will remain in the stomach for up to 8 hours.
There are 4 food groups that ideally should never come in contact with each other in the stomach. These food groups are starches, fleshes, nuts/seeds/dried fruits and fresh fruits. If you are new to the raw food detox diet, then your body may not be fussy about food combinations, but once your body begins to heal, it will let you know which foods you should not mix. A basic guideline is if a certain food combination does not give you gas, and you are still losing weight, then that combination is suitable for you.
