Is Sea Salt Healthy?

Sea salt is produced naturally from sea water. The water is channeled into large ponds where it is then allowed to evaporate. As the water evaporates, it leaves behind a residue what we call sea salt. Some salt is sold as is in its unrefined state, while other salts are refined and additives are added. The unrefined sea salts will have more color; depending on where it is produced, it will be a shade of gray, pink or a sandy color.

Is It Healthy?

Salt and minerals are always best when obtained naturally from plants. But, most of the produce grown today are grown in mineral deficient soil, and therefore we need to add those minerals to our bodies from other foods such as unrefined sea salt.

Unrefined sea salt contains about 98 percent sodium and up to 80 essential trace minerals, making it one of the healthiest salts available on the market. Some of the minerals which are found in sea salt are iodine, iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sulfur and zinc. Your body needs both the sodium and the minerals in order to function properly. But, keep in mind, you should not consume more than 1 tsp. a day because it contains about 2400 mg of sodium which is the recommended daily intake.

Why Is Sea Salt Necessary?

Sea salt is necessary for restoring essential minerals back to your body and for balancing fluid and electrolyte levels. It helps to absorb potassium, which along with the salt helps to regulate muscle contractions and nerve functions. Not enough salt can lead to muscle spasms, irregular heart rhythms, heart failure and osteoporosis.

Unrefined sea salt contains no added sugars, which makes this salt ideal for diabetics as it will not raise their blood sugar levels. Those with allergies will find relief by using sea salt, as it acts as a natural antihistamine. Sea salt helps to strengthen the immune system, improves the respiratory and circulatory systems and increases your energy levels. It is essential for the eyes, skin, hair and the overall health of the body.

Healthy Uses

Unrefined sea salt can be used in many different ways in order to obtain all the benefits of it. The most popular use is to use it in your cooking. Because it comes in a fine grain, it can also be used in your baking and as a table salt.

Sea salt can also be used to do a colon cleanse. Simply combine 2 tsp. of salt to 1 quart of warm water and drink on an empty stomach in the morning. Within 30 minutes to 2 hours, your bowels will begin to eliminate the toxic buildup. Sea salt is also great for taking baths, as it helps to draw the toxins to the surface of the skin and removes them from the body. It helps to clear up and soften the skin, as well as soothe tired aching muscles.

Combine 3 tbsp. unrefined sea salt with 1 gallon of water, and water your fruits and vegetables. The plants will absorb the minerals allowing you to grow mineral rich fruits and vegetables.
