Is it safe to lose a pound a day? The answer to that varies for each individual, as well as the diet and exercise program that will be used to lose this weight.

The average person normally consumes and burns about 2,000 calories per day. That means you will have to reduce your calories and exercise a lot more. But those who are overweight–30 pounds or more–should be able to lose a pound a day without any major complications, provided they do not have any underlying health issues.

To avoid losing your muscles, engage in light muscle building exercises to keep your muscles toned. Muscles are an active tissue which will help to burn even more calories. But you want to be careful that you do not overdo it because muscle tissues weigh more than fat tissues.

If you are not used to vigorous exercise then you will get sore during the first couple of days, and if you overdo it, it may result in fatigue. To avoid this from happening, simply start out slow and work your way up at a pace which is more comfortable for you. Twenty minute sessions are a great way to get the ball rolling.
