Macadamia Nut Oil has many health benefits, including aiding in the treatment of high cholesterol, and eliminating free radicals from the body. But macadamia nut oil also has many beauty benefits, including its ability to act as a facial moisturizer. Here’s how to make a macadamia nut oil face mask.
Ingredients for the Mask
The first step in making a macadamia nut oil face mask is to actually purchase the ingredients. For this face mask, you will need the following:
- The yolk of one egg
- One tablespoon each of yogurt and honey
- 1/4 cup oatmeal
- 1/2 teaspoon macadamia nut oil
While most of these ingredients can be easily found at grocery stores or specialty shops, you may have to look around for the almond and macadamia nut oil. Be sure that the oils are high quality, and that there are no added preservatives.
Making the Macadamia Nut Oil Face Mask
Place one tablespoon of the honey in a small, microwave safe bowl, and heat until it becomes liquid. Watch the honey closely to ensure that it does not become too hot. Carefully whisk the egg yolk into the honey until the mixture is thoroughly combined. Measure the macadamia nut oil with the oatmeal and yogurt, and add them to the mixture. Stir all of the ingredients together completely until a smooth, creamy texture develops.
Applying the Mask
Once the mask has been made, you must test for a skin allergy. Apply a small dab of the mixture to the inside of an elbow or another spot on your skin that can be easily hidden, and leave on for about ten minutes. Wash the mixture from the skin, and examine the spot. Look for signs of redness, swelling or bumps. If no irritation occurs, you can begin to apply the mask to your face. Start by washing your face with hot, clean water. Hot water will cause your pores to open, allowing the face mask to sink more fully into your skin. Dry your face with a clean towel, and set aside. Use a facial mask brush, spatula or your fingers to spread the paste gently and equally on all areas of your face. Make sure to avoid getting any of the mixture into your eyes, as this can cause serious irritation. Lie down on a bed or couch, and relax. Leave the mask on for at least ten minutes in order to achieve optimal results.
Removing the Mask
Now it’s time to remove the mask. This time, use water as cold as you can tolerate to remove the mixture. Unlike hot water, which will open your pores, cold water will make your pores smaller, thereby keeping the moisture trapped within your skin. Apply a moisturizer to “seal” your skin, thereby keeping all moisture inside the skin. Use this mixture once a week to achieve optimal results.
