The P90X is an exercise program designed to incorporate strength training, cardiovascular activity and stretching into a routine to help you lose weight. Below are some great tips for individuals who are considering trying out the P90X. Hopefully this program will not only help you be successful in losing weight, but will also teach you the joy of exercising, and encourage you to begin a lifetime of being physically active!
While exercise is a very important part of any weight loss or weight maintenance plan, research has found that what you put into your body accounts for approximately 70% of what your body looks like. This means that no matter how much you exercise, if you eat junk food, your body will never make the changes that you want to see. In order to lose 20 pounds on the P90X plan, it is essential that you eat a healthy breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in between in order to prevent hunger and overeating at future meal times. While there are currently a wide variety of diet books and patterns available that swear their diet plan will provide you with the best means necessary to lose weight, the truth of the matter is that a balanced diet will most often produce the best weight loss results. This healthy eating plan will help you to keep the weight off in the long run.
Choose foods that are low in fat (especially saturated fat), contain high amounts of vitamins and minerals, and have as few additives and preservatives as possible. Time and time again, we learn that “crash” dieting does not work–while it may help you lose a few pounds in the short term, over a long period of time it will simply add to even more weight gain.
Exercise Every Day
The theory behind the P90X program is that by exercising every (or nearly every) day and by using a different method of exercising on these days, you’ll “trick” your body into burning more calories and losing more weight. The basic idea that exercising every or almost every day is essential to promote weight loss. Let’s do some math–you can assume that by exercising for 60 minutes per day at a moderate to high intensity (similar to that provided by the P90X), you will burn around 500 calories. There are 3500 calories in a pound–and therefore by burning 500 calories every day for a week, you will burn 3500 calories–or one pound. This isn’t even considering the weight loss that may be occurring due to an altered diet!
By being conservative, let’s assume that you are losing 2 pounds per week. This means that you can achieve your weight loss goal of 20 pounds at around the end of two and a half months! While the science behind P90X may not be entirely supported by research, the different exercises provided are guaranteed to keep you engaged and entertained. You’ll have no reason to quit!
