Our bodies burn fat naturally by using fat stores to produce energy. When you eat and drink, you replenish these fat stores so that you can continue to produce energy. The problem for many of us is that our fat stores are full all the time: we don’t burn off as much fat as our bodies are storing.
There are a few simple things you can do to force your body to access your fat stores and help your body burn more fat in a natural way, without pills, diets or surgery.
Examine Your Eating Habits
Typically, you eat three large meals a day with snacks in between. If you can change that around to six small meals a day, your body will have an easier time burning fat. You might also notice that you are eating less, and your metabolism is working at a faster pace, helping you burn off excess fat. Include more fruits, veggies and whole grains in these six little meals: make every bite of food count as far as helping you reach your fat burning goals.
Watch What You Drink
Cut down on sugar and simple carbohydrates. Your body uses these types of food to make energy. If you aren’t putting them in your system, your body will start to use your fat stores to create energy. Soda pop, sugary drinks, cappuccino’s and some juices have tons of sugar and carbs. Switch over to water, and you will notice a big difference. 8-10 glasses of water a day has always been recommended for a healthy body, and that is still the standard recommendation.
Maintain Healthy Protein Levels
Keep up protein levels while you are burning fat. Without adequate protein, you lose muscle mass, but knowing how much protein you need can be tricky. The Recommended Daily Allowance for women over 14 years of age is about 46 grams per day. The RDA goes up if you are lactating, recovering from illness or are still growing. Make sure you are getting your protein from the best sources like beans, nuts, diary, fish, poultry and lean meats.
Before Hitting the Sack
Don’t eat anything before going to bed. Your body burns energy at night while you sleep; let it burn the fat from your fat stores instead of the snack you slipped in an hour before bed. If you absolutely must have a snack, make it a light vegetable snack with a glass of water. The more hours between your snack and bedtime the better.
Getting “UP” in the Morning
Another simple trick to force your body to burn fat is to exercise first thing in the morning before you put anything but water into your system. Not only will this help you wake up, it will force your body to again access the fat stores for energy (and it will kick start your metabolism). Something fun like Wii sports is a great way to start your day. It clears out the cobwebs and energizes you in a way that coffee can’t.
With just a few simple tricks you can turn your body into a fat burning machine–one that burns fat naturally.
