How Long Will It Take You to Lose 50 Pounds?

Losing weight is a tough task itself and with a goal to lose 50 pounds, the bar goes up much higher. 50 pounds is a large amount of weight to lose. If this goal is planned out with a proper game plan, the task will not seem too daunting. If there is no plan, most people will give up hope and will not reach that final goal.

Plan of Attack

To be successful at losing weight, especially large amounts such as 50 pounds, a plan needs to be created. This will serve as a guide to keep the weight loss on track. This plan is not set in stone and can be tweaked along the way if the weight loss is not going as it should.

Diet Change

To begin the weight loss, a change in eating habits is needed. A single pound is about 3500 calories. To lose weight, there needs to be a deficit in the amount of calories that are being taken in. If you cut out 500 calories per day, this will result in a pound lost per week. At this rate, losing 50 pounds will take 50 weeks or just under a year to do.

Doctors and fitness professionals agree that to lose weight and keep it off, a weight loss of one to two pounds per week is what to strive for.

Exercise and Weight Training

The best way to go about losing weight is to have a change in your daily diet and to have an exercise plan.  Exercise and weight training will become a necessary tool to burn more calories throughout the day and keep the weight coming off.  If the plan is to have a 500 calorie daily deficit and to burn 500 calories per day, this will result in a total of 2 pounds lost per week. With this plan, it will take about 6 months to lose 50 pounds.

Cardio is key to burning off fat quickly, and the more fat burned off, the more weight that will be lost. If cardio is the only type of exercise that is being done, in the middle of the weight loss plan, you may hit a plateau. Adding in weight training will help to keep the fat burning going. Muscle burns fat long after the session has been completed.

Weight loss is a very hard goal to achieve. Losing large amounts of weight will take time and can be frustrating. Develop a plan of attack and execute that plan to have the best results.  Be sure to have a change in diet, as well as adding in exercise and weight training, and that goal can be achieved.
