It also affects your internal organs and cells. Without hydration, your body fails to work properly. This is called dehydration. The fluid intake you need comes from a great number of things, including pure water. Some of the foods you eat provide the necessary water you need to be healthy. Your diet and weight also depend on keeping hydrated.

You hydrate your body by drinking plenty of water. Water is the best option for maintaining hydration and a healthy weight. It has 0 fat, calories and carbohydrates. You should drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. This may include flavored or vitamin enhanced water. Water also fills you up during meals. You tend to eat less when you drink water with food. Unlike sodas and non-fruit juices, water is pure and hydrating.

Many times throughout the day, you feel hungry. Your hunger may actually be a sign of thirst and require some type of hydration. Dehydration mimics hunger in several ways. You feel tired, light-headed or worn down. The next time you’re hungry, drink water, 100% fruit juice or tea.

Although you fear weight gain when you drink to stay hydrated, your body may retain fluid because it’s dehydrated. If you do experience fluid retention, it’s only temporary. With proper exercise and  dieting, water weight gain goes away through urination and sweat. Make sure to stay hydrated by replenishing this fluid loss by drinking water or real fruit juice.

Hydration speeds up your metabolism. If you’re dehydrated, your metabolism slows down. This hampers your ability to lose unwanted pounds. Hydration speeds up the calorie burning process by keeping your metabolism working all day long. However, it’s not safe to drink only fluids to do this. You should eat a proper diet as well.

How Exercise Affects Hydration

Exercise burns calories and fat. It can also dehydrate you. You need to drink water when you do any type of aerobic or weight training. You lose fluids through sweat. Sweating is your body’s way of cooling off. Although this is a good thing, it can upset your body’s fluid balance. Stay hydrated by drinking water after each session. You’ll have more energy to complete your exercise.

How Fruit Hydrates You

There are numerous fruits that provide hydration with their own water supply. Fruit helps you lose weight and quench your thirst. This type of hydration is better for you than drinking sports drinks and sugary juices. These include:

Hydration not only affects your diet, it affects your overall well-being. Try to drink up to eight glasses of water each day. You can also eat fruits to stay hydrated.
