Carbohydrates and Diabetes
Carbohydrates are your body’s primary source of energy. The way they work has a lot to do with sugar and insulin, which is something diabetics know a lot about. When carbs enter your system, they are converted into sugar. In response to this, your body creates insulin to break the sugar down so it can more readily enter the cells. If you have diabetes, your pancreas does not create this insulin, and your blood sugar can rise to dangerous levels.

High Protein, Low Carb Diet
This is the diet of choice if you have diabetes. Simply put, your body cannot handle the sugar created by carbohydrates, and this forces you into having to eat protein to compensate. Your body will make excellent use of all the protein you ingest and for this reason, it is important to eat foods which are high in protein at every meal. Consuming some carbohydrates at certain times may be necessary to help control your sugar levels, especially if it drops significantly.
Because the body rapidly breaks down the muscle protein to create glucose, you may have trouble keeping up with your body’s needs in this regard. Using protein supplements can assist in the endeavor greatly. Supplements containing whey proteins or casein are especially useful. Casein, a milk protein, can form a type of clot or gel-like substance in the stomach, which will slowly release, over time, a steady supply of amino acids into the blood stream. This mimics the effects of insulin creation and has immense powers to help regulate blood sugar levels.
