Default General Chit-chat#1

Hey all. I hope no one minds if I start just a general chat thread for this forum. I'm not following either the bootcamp or the weekly challenge so it leaves me a bit outside of things when it comes to posting so I'm just going to post here about what's going on and I hope some others will join me in discussion.

Dietwise I'm going back to Dr. Phil's rapid start plan starting today. I've gained 3 lbs and I'm at 230 lbs. I feel like I've gained back more though. It seems all of a sudden that shirts I've been wearing for awhile don't fit and my pants are tighter. It could be that while my weight has only changed by 3 lbs that I've lost muscle and gained fat and so have gotten bigger in actual size. Also I'm definately going back to the gym more.

I was actually thinking last week of trying weight loss surgery. Then I recognized that I was heading in the wrong direction. I can lose weight, I know I can by conventional methods, I don't need surgery. What I need is some old fashioned hard work and will power.

I'm also going to get my weight loss scrapbook going. I'm taking my camera with me to the gym and see if I can get one of the staff to take a pic of me on the elliptical machine. Just sort of sneak up and snap a pic. I don't want a smiley face pic, I want a real pic of what I look like exercising.

So how is everyone else doing? Misty what is up with you? I see you haven't started the weekly challenge thread this week, hope everything is okay.

I'm also going to start a ticker for my weight in my signature. I stopped doing it because I was upset that I wasn't losing but now I'm thinking I need a bit of a reality check and every little bit will help.

Take care all, have a great day!

Just finished breakfast. Not very inspired because I don't have much in the fridge right now. I had some left over pork roast and a banana and water.

AHHHHHHH! I hate adelphia cable company. This is a whole big long story for something really dumb. So like a month ago we lost our remote to our sattelite dish. So instead of just buying a new remote my husband decides we are switching to cable b/c it is cheaper and we'll get a discount with our internet since we will get both tv and internet now trhough the same compnay. Well when they turned up the tv, they screwed up my internet. Plus I HATE the cable, for $10 less than dish I get less than half teh channels with NONE of the nice features of dish (like info and show title and time remaining shown whne you flip the chanels) It was NOT a bargain in my opinion. So DH upgraded to digital cable and my internet was still messed up. So now I am paying the same amount as before, for fewer channels (liek 25 less), and it took them 5 days to fix my internet! Sheesh! How hard would it have been to buy a new remote?

SO that's where I have been. TOM finally showed up over a week late, but it's here THANK GOD!!!!

I love the idea of general chit chat Jen! I too am not really following much of anything. I'll still start the one week challenge threads b/c it ensures I come here. LOL I love your scrap book idea. I am gonna have to think of a way to do something like that myself. I am glad you thought the surgery idea through and realized that it's not the best option fo ryou. You know you can do it and that's great. I know it can be a viable option for some people and it's greta you weighed your options and made an informed decision.

I am back up to 210. I was at 194 in the recent past. I am angry with myself. I know I too can lose weight, I just have to try. So it's back to the grindstone for me. No gimmicks, no tricks, just strigiht up watching what I eat (journaling) and exercise. I like points, they work for, I'm gonna quit whining and use them. I created a new food journal in Excell that has a place to keep track of points, exercise and water. Plus it has an area for the four food groups and a bubble per serving recommended by the pyramid. That way I fill in the bubble as I eat a food from that group to ensure I am fullfilling my dietary needs.

Ok lots of internet catching up to do. so I have to run.

Have a great day everyone!!

Hey there. Misty, glad TOM finally showed up. I've had that fear many, many times. Every time I get a UTI it feels exactly like being pregnant. I had a decent lunch but got into some ice cream and a couple of cookies in the afternoon but I had a very good supper and right now I have an apple and some carrot sticks to tide me over til morning. I also went to the gym for 35 minutes on the elliptical machine and also some crunches.

Hope everyone had a good day and we'll see your tomorrow!

GOOD MORNING!!!

How's it going everyone? Things here are going well. Benn kinda bummy latley, feeling sad and stuff. Not good. SO last night I finally had a heart to heart with DH at 2 am. He actually listened and didn't interupt with crazy theories that all my problems stem from not going outside enough or drinking enough water. I am seriously jockying for a weekend away, ALONE. Every mom's dream I think. Time to be alone and sleep and read and think! Love my kids, love my family, I know I have an easy job compared to others, but still I am gonna be selfish. I feel I need it. Maybe a reward for reaching a goal or something.

Jen sounds like you are doing well!! Great job on getting to the gym! Don't sweat the icecream cookies, sounds like you just had a taste or two. We all need that at times.

I did well yesterday. Drank alot, walked, did my upper body stuff and 20 crunches....I hate crunches so I am starting out very very small. I stayed within my points and resistened my husband's unintended sabotage of chinese take out at 9 pm. Well I had a few nibbles, then had him pack it up.

I feel good. I know 10 pounds in 10 days is extreme, but I want it sooo bad. I want to be back under 200 by my appointment. Of course thier scale reads higher so I probably won't make it. I need to remember slow and steady wins the race. It's not about how fast I get there as long as I am getting there.

Well off to eat some hot oatbran cereal stuff. Who knew that I would eat oatbran cereal, and find it edible? A little splenda alot of cinnamon, it's ok. Maybe it's something that comes with age lol. I can't bring myself to tell my father, after years of complaining about being made to eat all kinds of weird hot cereals in highschool, I just can't bear to tell him that I am actually eating it voluntarily!

have a great day everyone~misty

Hi Everyone,
I am new here. I just joined yesterday and am very excited about all the support i'm getting and all the great people i'm meeting. I am not really following any one diet. Right now i'm just trying to eat healthier and be aware of exactly what i'm putting in my body. I am trying to follow some of the bootcamp rules though. I was really inspired by Oprah's show earlier this month. I am looking forward to getting to know you all. Have a great day!!!

Terri

Hi Terri, welcome to our group. Please feel free to drop in and post regardless of what plan you are following, the more the merrier!

Misty - sounds like you had a very good day yesterday and I'll bet you feel a lot better after the talk with your hubby. Yeah, I only wish getting outside and drinking more water would cure all our weight loss problems.

Okay so would someone please tell me what is going on with my body?? I am sick AGAIN and it seems to happen every time I make a serious committment to lose weight. I get sick and am derailed. Honest to goodness this is the truth! Hand over my heart, hand on the bible. I have strep throat AGAIN. It started about 4am and I have a sore throat, difficulty swallowing and throat glands the size of baseballs! So it's back to the dr for more antibiotics. Makes me so mad!! Well I'm going to try really hard to stay focused regardless of feeling ill.

Take care all, have a great day!

WELCOME TERRI!! This is a greta group, I hope you find the support you need Where in NY are you from? I grew up in Chatuaqua County (near lake Erie) and Catteraugus County (near Olean, only about 45 minutes form where I live now).

Jen-I can't beleive you are sick again! Good Lord, you've been bombarded! Just get some rest when you can and maybe not push to work out. Maybe just keep thinking about your goals and where you wnat to be and it will help keep you focused.

Yesterday was so so for me. I ate that balsted chinese food dh brought home. But I walked twice.

I liked your scrap book idea Jen. So I decided to make a weightloss website. I saw someone else had one. A guy in the success story forum. I wrote down my story to date, put in my excel chart where I track my weight, and lots of pictures of my at my highest, one of me in highschool and one of me now. Maybe someday I will put it online, but for now it's a work in progress. Gives me a creative outlet.

Well got to run have a great day all!!

Hey all. Busy day today. I went to IKEA and bought a bamboo blind on sale and went to a garden center looking for a basket. I ended up buying about $70 worth of plants for my garden but of course no basket. I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for and they were really, really expensive anyways. I could buy the plants and the basket and do it myself for less money. The reason I don't is that anytime I've tried to make my own baskets everything dies! I don't exacly have a green thumb but I keep on trying. Have a great weekend everyone, see you later!

Hey all!

I just have to say how much I relate to that Jen!!! I am NOT good with plants. My husband no longer allows me to have house plants. I have one small african violet one of my students gave me when I quit working, some how it has survived. We plant a graden every year, if it weren't for my husband I think it would die LOL! And we won't even discuss my poor flower beds, I keep on trying though, I have a bunch of flowers the kids helped me plant indoors, we'll see how they turn out when we put them outside.

well ahev a good day all!

I am a lot better thanks Misty. Turned out that it was just a cold that is pretty much already gone. I did feel crappy for a couple of days though.

Not a great weekend eating wise. yesterday was so hot here that I didn't feel like cooking at all so we ended up eating sandwiches and cookies and ice cream bars and popsicles.

I had to install the a/c yesterday. I couldn't get my son to take a nap in the afternoon, it was just too hot in his room so the a/c had to go in. That was fun because I had to rearrange his entire room. It ended up being a 3 hour chore by the time I had rearranged his room, put the a/c in the window, put a mesh screen over it and then relocate the mesh bag that hangs on the wall that holds his stuffed toys. We put this mesh screen over the a/c, not like the screening in your screen door, more like hard wire that you'd have to use tin snips to cut. Anyway he's only 3 1/2 and I can see him trying to monkey with the a/c or the window and having it fall out and him with it. The screen is screwed right into the window molding so he can't get at anything. Lucky we have a newer a/c that has a remote. So by the time I was done that I was sweaty, grumpy and stinky. Not exactly the way I wanted to spend my day but then after that we sat out on the deck and read for a couple of hours. That was nice. The house cooled down overnight, it had gotten very warm during the day. The downstairs wasn't too bad but upstairs was just sweltering. With the a/c in our son's room and the ceiling fan in our room and the bathroom window open for a cool breeze as it cooled down it was comfortable overnight. It is amazing what a few degrees can make for comfort level. Like it was 82 and cooled down to about 76 but with the fan on it feels cooler. That's only like a 6 degree difference but it is so much cooler by comparison.

Well I hope everyone had a nice weekend and has a great day. I have to work tonight but then I am off Tues and Wed and back on Thurs, off Friday and back in on Saturday. So I should have a few days this week that I can get to the gym and back in the swing of things. Take care all, see you later.

I'm so glad you are feeling better!

I wish we could get a/c. That screen idea is a great one. I'll keep that in mind! My upstairs is miserable. My husband has all these fan blowing, he spends all summer stragically placing them to maximize air movement. It's rather funny. I can't stand the NOISE though, the constant hum of fans drives me insane, couple it with the computer noise (we have two plus a server and a firewall that run all the time) and it's enough to put me over the edge lol. we are looking into a whole house fan. You put it in your attic and it sucks air up and out your roof vents so you get a nice breeze all the time. We don't want a/c right now b/c our house is so drafty it would just all leak out.

We had a huge storm here today. Hail and winds. Two years ago we had a tornado hit our neighbors' farm jump over ours and hit one about 1/4 of a mile away, leveled it. So now I get a bit jumpy about storms. They never used to bother me. But in this rickety old house, they scare me. So I had the kids all put shoes on and brought my son downstairs from his nap, and packed a bag with snacks diaper, wipes, flashlight, formula and water and put it by the basement steps. I think I will get stuff that's not perishable and put it in a box permanently so we have it on hand.

Well have a great day!
