Default YOU: and nuts?? and substitutions?

I'm looking into the YOU: on a diet diet, if you see what I mean. Just started the book yesterday. One thing is bothering me though - i noticed here and what I had read in the book so far that nuts are mentioned quite frequently. i am allergic to nuts and am fed up hearing how healthy they are!! (OK, mini rant over )

Are there substitutions for nuts on this plan for those who are allergic?

Also it seems to mention salmon a lot. I really don;t like salmon, and believe me, I have tried. I don't like most fish (unless it is haddock, wrapped in batter and served in the best fish&chip shop in the world... which fortunately for my waistline is in England and nowhere near my house!). I can just about manage tuna, occasionally...

So are there substitutions for salmon/other fish too??

Back to the book now...

Hey catsnhorses!

Not sure that there are really direct substitutions for the nuts - you don't have to eat them if you don't want to or can't, but then you should consider adding some sort of oil supplement to your diet - the walnuts are there as a good source of Omega 3 & 6. Same goes with the salmon.

Fish oil capsules would work, Udo's Essential Oil blend would work as well. I don't have my book here right now, so I can't check to see what they Drs. say about this exactly.

My DF doesn't eat salmon, so that means I don't either, unless I'm in a restaurant. So, we try to get tuna into our diet at least once a week, maybe more if I can sneak it in for him.

The great thing about this food plan is that it's meant to keep you healthy by getting in all the nutrients you need, it makes losing weight easy because you're rarely hungry, but most of all, it's *flexible*. You can modify it to fit your lifestyle as long as you follow the 5 basic priciples about grains, HFCS, sugar, sat. fat and flours. The food plans outlined in the book are the ideal to strive for, but most of us here have had great success following our "tweaked" versions of it.

Thanks, Cindy. I think I can easily use fish oil capsules instead. i got a tip to put them in the freezer to avoid fishy burps (ick).

Man, I feel like i have soooo much to learn about this fitness and nutrition thing! Typical white bread upbringing + v. little science background + food issues = HELLLLLP!!

But I think I am in the right place with 3fatchicks

I wonder how the docs feel about soy nuts? They are actually a cooked and roasted 'bean' so maybe if you're not allergic to that? Could work for a snack.
