I started the plan today. My mother is my built in buddy on this plan. I have a large amount of weight to lose so we'll see how this goes. I like how it focuses on habits rather than eat this/don't eat that mentality. I think the hardest part will be staying off the scale for the first four weeks!

I'm jumping on board this plan. It seems more doable than anything else I've tried (*cough*6weekbodymakeover*cough*). I haven't bought the book just yet, but I will before the week's up.

Very cool- Maybe we can do a daily post checking in where everyone can talk about the things that are working/not working for them or what they accomplished that day. We need to celebrate the accomplishments daily (or at least I do) so that I don't get flustered. Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks for all the comments. The little I had read about the new book pointed to more behavioral modification than anything else. If I can get the book cheap on Amazon, I might purchase it just because I don't think you can ever have too much information. For those of you who have started, what do you think?

Hi everyone
I ended up picking this book up for a really good price at Costco. I've gotten to page 42 so far, and look forward to reading more about all that's entailed. It certainly sounds quite reasonable and realistic... perhaps the kind of approach that many of us need to take, in order to have lasting success in our weight-loss endeavors.
I've tried and failed a few diets in the past (WW and South Beach, for the past 10 years to be exact). I've never been one to look for the quick fix or the "easy way out". My doctor has been trying to suggest Meridia or Xenical, and I refuse to take any of those weight-loss drugs, unless it's a life-or-death situation. I know I can do this on my own, it's just a matter of finding the style of life that I can lead today, tomorrow, and many years down the road... that will keep my eating habits under control, and my weight at a healthy level. Also, pin-pointing what is causing this "addiction" to certain foods, and my reluctance to stay focused, which has me sabotaging myself in the end.
I could definitely use someone to do this with... is there anyone out there that has 100 or so pounds to lose, that might want to buddy up to do this with me? It would be nice to have someone help encourage one another, and someone who can relate with me on the experiences we'll be going through in this "battle of the bulge".
I've gotta head off to work now, but I'll check back in later.

I just saw Oprah's show with Bob Greene's new "Best Life" book. To be honest brothers and sisters of the weight loss community, I want to avoid paying another dime for another book to add to my collection and chalk this up to another diet failure. Consequently, I would love some feedback from those of you who have read the book thoroughly and truly believe that the advice in the book is better than all of the others that have been published in the past. I know that true success is within each of us, and I'm not looking for a quick fix. I've been a 20+ year dieter and know that quick fixes do not work but I would like a lifetime program. Let me know if it's worth the buy. What little bit was revealed on the show was interesting, but so were Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz's plans as well.

I'll be your "best life" buddy Weight2go. Sounds like you have some of the same issues that I (and many of us) have. I personally don't buy into this concept of dieting has to do with some deep underlying issue(s) which is attributing to my diet failure. I truly have a food addiction, much like people have drug and alcohol addictions. I eat when I'm happy or sad simply because I love the taste of food and it's as simple as that. In fact, if I could kick or get rid of the "sweet" cravings, I would do much better on any diet plan. Anyway, I'm going to buy the book and try out the "best life" strategy. I look forward to hearing from you and your progress.

I bought the book. Don't waste your money (IMO). I was frankly disappointed NOT because the book didn't offer some good points, but because there was nothing new in it. I was looking for that "magic pill" or idea that would help me lose these last 10 pounds, but all of his tips in the book are things I'm already doing.....

I guess we all want something magic. I'm thinking about trying this plan. I hope this thread attract more people who are interested. I guess the truth is we still have cut back on eating to lose weight.

Reduce calories and increase activity. That is the key.

Anyone new to the Bob Program???
I'm new to the whole 3chicks website and I'm trying really hard to lose the weight that I need to for my wedding. I've tried everything from Weightwatchers, Adkins (which made me cranky), to everything in between. I am 23 so when i sat down to watch Oprah it was like "omigoodness I've turned into my mother." I saw Bob on the show and thought to myself, I need to try something new. What is the basics of this diet? Is it just not eating fast food/transfat and trying to be active. My wedding isn't for awhile but I don't know if the diet is for me because the sucess stories surround women that were in the 200+ range and I'm only 160. I'm starting the diet today none the less so if you are starting the diet-let's be in it together! We need support and frankly we all like a little competition!

Hi all,
I just joined today and am exited to get going. I have an overall loss goal of +/- 30lbs. This plan sounds good. I dont want to yo-yo.
Anyone need a buddy?

Well, I dove in and ordered the book. I went ahead and joined the best life website to get some insight and ideas while I wait for the book, but I think that I will probably cancel that before the free 10 day trial is up.
I am like many of you here, I have read so many books on dieting and I KNOW the right things to eat and do, but just do not follow through with doing them. I do know that simply buying and reading the books will not cause the weight to fall off magically, but I keep doing it, hoping that one of them will give me the detailed map I need, to find my way to success!
DH and I were having a conversation about what each of us thinks we need to be successful in our weightloss goals. I think that I need a weekly meal plan to follow, I feel like this: if it is laid out there for me to see and do, then I won't have to put much thought into food and I will just know what I need to have on hand to prepare meals and just do it. I think that it may also eliminate those "Oh, I have to throw something together quickly, so we will eat....this(insert not so healthy, but quick choice here)!"
So, I am going to use the bestlife website to put together some weekly meal plans to follow and we will see how it goes. Wish me luck!
Darcy
