Michele - Glad to hear you had a better day and that you can keep that money for the braces for a few more months. We spent several years taking Laura back and being told to come back in a couple of months. Our dentist had referred both girls at the same time, but we were able to hold off on Laura until Sara was almost done. I know the journaling is important for me, but I still resist doing it...probably because it forces me to be honest about what I'm eating.

Karen C - You just keep that candy out of your mouth when you make the cake!! Sorry about the gain, but since you are right back OP it will be off soon. My sister was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Her doctor strongly recommended she attend a class given by a medical group at one of the hospitals and she asked me to go with her.

Judy - Way to go showing that PMS monster who's the boss. Thanks for letting us know about the meeting topic. It reminded me of something the doctor said at the class last week. One of the women was talking about waking up in the middle of the night and knowing that her glucose level was too low. When the doctor asked what she did about it, she told him she would get up and eat ice cream even though she knew she shouldn't. He just looked at her and told her that she had to take responsibility for what she was eating. Hope you enjoyed your dinner out tonight.

Karen B - Sorry about the gain and the weight loss blahs. I've been struggling with them for several months. Keep hanging on and we will pull through together. I usually don't keep ice cream in the house either, but had gotten some for Sara when she was sick. It's gone now and I'm not letting it back in for a while.

I overslept this morning and didn't get to the weights. Then Darrell wanted to go out for dinner again. I know what the good choices are for several places we eat, but end up order the "not so good" items.

Talk to you later.

Good Morning! Much better today, amazing what time can do. I found last night the most delicious fat free veggie dip, 1 point for 2 tablespoons (12 points for whole bucket in case you get carried away) Southwestern Ranch it was in the veggie case made by something like T. Margaritas. SO GOOD!! Spicy good. Ate that last night at a dinner party with celery, carrots and red peppers instead of junk so that was a major accomplishment. I also brought my own Lean Cuisine for dinner. Ate a little too much of the dip, but hey the damage I could have done. I actually think since veggies are free that I probably stayed within points.

Pat-I really think journaling is the key also. Your class sounds interesting. Your walking with your sister gave me an idea. Bobby has to start training for soccer season with running to build up to 3 miles a day. I am going to start training with him. At least getting out there and the extra moving should help, after daylight savings it should be much easier too.

Karen B-I think I have hit that wall with you. I am almost done so somewhere in my head I have convinced myself that I don't have to try as hard now. CRAZY! We are all here for you for the motivation and like Jennifa said only 13 weeks until bathing suit weather.

Judy-Your winning outcome sounds awesome! Mine was not that detailed, maybe I should rethink/rework it. Great Job and Good Luck!

Karen-That birthday cake sounds wonderful and dangerous. Keep that candy out of your mouth Sorry about the gain, but you are right the meetings will definately help. Hope all is well with your mother.

Carla-I hope all is well with you too.

Anyway, have a great day. Here's hoping to stay OP and get my body moving again, chest is actually starting to feel better and I am going to try and work out tonight.

Karen B - OK kiddo, ready for some "tough love"? First of all, taking the dogs for a leisurely half mile does count - is it the most intense workout you'll ever do? No, but it's *something* and what the heck, the dogs have to poop, don't they? As for the gain - stuff happens - but let me tell you that if you let this stop you, ya' know what's going to happen? You're going to gain back what you've gained (and you might gain more)! So, here's the thing - is this hard? Yeah, otherwise I'd be at 135 in a size 10 for the last couple of years. Is it worth it? I can only answer that for me but yes, it IS worth it because I plan on being healthy for a good many years. I want to enjoy my life with my husband, family and grandson. I don't want to be debilitated by heart disease or diabetes or whatever and (and I know this sounds like a hair coloring commercial) but I'M WORTH IT - and for all we beat ourselves up about "I ate the refrigerator last night" (and I almost did) I'll bet if you ask yourself the same questions, you'll decide that you are too. What it comes down to for me is that the only way I KNOW I'll fail is if I stop trying. So I'm glad you're not going to "let it fall apart" this time - hang in there - this lack of motivation will pass - you'll get it back - how about coming up with a winning outcome? Last night I actually stopped myself from doing more damage by thinking about being out on the beach and NOT feeling like a sausage stuffed into my bathing suit (why do those images always relate to food?? ;-) OK, sorry for getting my dander up - I'm pretty prementrual myself.

Pat - Sorry to hear about the eating out problems. That's something I have to work on too. One thing I tried this weekend was ordering a "not so good" item, but splitting it with Tony and then splitting a "good item" dish too. If Darrell doesn't want to, you can try to take 1/2 of it home - what I found was that the "oooh, I love this dish" was satisfied but I didn't do much damage because of the smaller quantity.

Michelle - I'll have to look for that dip. My latest favorite have been a red pepper hummous (also 2TB for 1 point) - I love spicy dips with veggies! What a great idea to start training with Bobby!

I had a pretty good day yesterday and I say that because even though I went over points, I counted them and stopped before I did too more damage. I did OK at dinner - 1 glass of wine, 1 piece of bread, pasta (not a hyge portion) and no dessert. When I got home though, the PMS monster struck and I ate 3/4 of the pint of Healthy Choice chocolate brownie ice cream (hadn't bought it in a while). Yup, that's 9 points of snacking but I counted it (after I ate it but I journalled all the same) and then stopped. I had already banked quite a bit of food points and activity points so I'm OK (still have some activity points left). Before I started work, I did a 1/2 hour of a very intense step tape so I earned a few more activity points.

Have a great Think Thin Thursday!

Hi everyone.

Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I was temporarily without internet access at work.

Karen C - Yikes - having to fly through Chicago on Saturday with those winds we were having. I don't envy you. I'm sorry to hear your mom is back in the hospital and facing another surgery. My best wishes to her. Sorry to hear about your gain, but with the stress you were under, its understandable. I know that you'll lose it again soon. I'm sure the meetings will help you do so.

Pat - I have trouble with eating out too. I know what I should do, but oftentimes, most times, don't do it. Unfortunately, we eat out more than we should.

Michele - I'm glad to hear that your days have gotten better and that your breast muscle is feeling better too. Good idea to start training with Bobby. I'll have to look for that veggie dip. I love anything spicy.

Judy - Thanks for the information on the winning outcomes. I have to sit down and write one or two for myself. And yes, one of my steps to get there must be to count points, no matter what. I think when you put pen to paper and tally those points, it helps put the brakes on a binge. I'll have to try that new Kashi cereal. Haven't had any Kashi in a while, come to think of it. Sounds like you did a good job at dinner and that, even though you had the run-in with the ice cream, you're firmly on track.

Karen B - Sorry to hear about your gain. I know those blahs all too well. I've been dealing with them the past three years and have gotten nowhere but back to where I started. I'm sending you positive vibes to find yourself back on track. You can do this. You know you can do this. And we're here to help.

I didn't weigh myself yesterday. My sneak peeks were so discouraging that I just didn't want to deal with an official weigh-in. I knew that I'd just be setting myself up for a binge. It's been a struggle the past few days, but I'm going to get me journal out now and write down what I've had today. I'm going to get all of my water in and aim for my 5 fruits and veggies too. And then I'll just take it from there. Thanks for all the well wishes for my kitty. Judy, his name is Trotski (don't ask - John did it, not me) and he'll be 16 in August. So he's been with us a long time. But still... The vet didn't find any bacterial problems. So the next step is to put him on prednisone, to help with the diarrhea and to reduce any inflammation of the colon, in case that's the problem. And she's giving us a referral to a specialist to do more tests. At least the anti-biotics he's been on have seemed to help him.

Have a great day everyone.

Michele, that dip sounds yummy, and reminded me of the TexMex food I had one night in Texas! What a great plan to work out with Bobby! That should get you moving towards goal. By the way, is there some reason why you don't want to let go of those last couple of pounds?

Judy, thanks for the info on the winning outcome. And also for the tough love, they really helped me focus! And also for the words of wisdom from your WW leader about if your not counting points, you're not doing WW! I'm getting excited about going to meetings now.

Pat, sorry about your sister. I watched a program on Discovery Health over the weekend called "Weight Loss Challenge" and one of the women who participated also had Type 2 diabetes. After losing weight she was able to come off the meds.

Carla, I hope Trotski feels better with the new meds. Pred can work wonders, hope it works for him.

Karen B, how are you doing today? We're here for you! I know how you feel, which is why I've decided to go to meetings. My husband has recently started seeing a sports nutritionist weekly. I think these kind of things really help to get the motivation back.

Thanks everyone for your kind words, thoughts and prayers. Mumsy had surgery yesterday and is doing well. I wish I could be with her through this, but I know she is in good hands with he doctors and my sister. The nursing care at the hospital is wonderful. But I still want to be there! Oh well, I'll be back on 4/1, and in the meantime I'm sending flowers and lots of cards.

The cake! I did it! Except for a few licks of the bowls, I didn't eat one piece of candy or crumb of cake. It helped that the nutritional info was printed with the recipe - 650 calories for 1/16 of the cake, which means the entire cake is almost 10,000 calories! Now that's a killer cake. As soon as I finished making it, I delivered it and didn't wait around for the cake cutting! We need an angel smiley to put here!

Hi Everyone;

Thanks for your words of encouragement...I sure needed a dose of tough love and a bit of empathy. You're all so great. Today has been better. I've been way too tired and cranky after work to get on the treadmill and do a workout, so this morning I got up at 4:45 (yes, you read that right) and did 30 minutes. Eating has been right on track, and I've even gotten in most of my water. Don't know why I always flounder at 20 lbs, but I'll break through and keep on keeping on!

Karen C - OMG a 10,000 calorie cake!!! Here's your angel for turning the other cheek and saying no to all the candy in it. What a woman! Don't give me the recipe! Thank goodness your mom's doing well.

Carla - way to go on journalling and drinking up. Hope Trotski picks up for you, bless his furry little soul. Prednisone is a great veterinary med, doesn't have all the side effects on animals that it does on people.

Tough Love - I mean, Judy - thanks, my friend I needed that! Good thing we take turns crashing and burning, we'd be up the creek if we all did it together! Your attitude is amazing...I'll be working on my winning outcome tomorrow. It's pretty much like the nursing process, identify the problem, set a goal, plan and implement interventions, and evaluate. I do this all the time for others, and have never even considered writing my own care plan!

Michele - your dip sounds great! You did an awesome job of not going nuts with all those food choices. I know you'll be rid of those last couple of lbs soon, and be our first "maintainer", coz we won't even consider letting you go away once you reach goal!!

Pat - yes we will get through this together, even if sometimes it's kicking and screaming. And like that silly woman who eats ice cream in the middle of the night when her blood sugar is bottoming out, ultimately, we all have to take responsibility for what we eat.

Have a great Friday,

Karen B

Carla - sorry to hear that you've had a rough few days - I'm sure worrying about Trotski has been very stressful. Good for you for getting out your journal and concentrating on the water and fruits & veggies. I'm glad the antibiotics seem to be helping him and hope that the prednison stops the diarrhea. What's your weekend looking like?

Karen C - I'm glad to hear that the surgery went well and you mom is on the mend. I'm sure being far away isn't easy but 4/1 will be here before you know it. Great job on avoiding that cake - good strategy on not hanging around for the cake cutting - and you do deserve a halo for that! Let me know what you think of your meeting. I consider myself very lucky in that my leader is great and the group is too - I've made quite a lot of friends there and they've been very helpful.

Karen B - WAY TO GO!! Getting up at 4:45 is a great accomplishment - it sounds like you are well on your way to breaking through. I love the fact that you connected the winning outcome with a care plan because that's exactly what it is - a plan to take care of ourselves - something we don't do enough of at times. Yes, it is a VERY good thing that we don't crash and burn together - we'd be up the creek and sans paddle!

I had a pretty good day yesterday - the PMS monster was lurking around but I managed to stop the snacking before any real damage was done. I didn't journal the PB before I ate it but while I still had the jar out I did the mental calculations and it stopped me for sure! I was feeling very achy this morning (arthritis) so I took the bus from the station. I'm taking the afternoon off though (getting my hair cut) and I plan to walk on the treadmill while I watch Oprah (I should be home in time for it). She's having a follow-up with the people who committed to the no emotional eating plan and I want to see how they've done. That's a problem area for me and I'm hoping that there will be a couple of things that "click" for me. This weekend will be a little challenging. We're going out to a seafood place that Tony's father likes - sort of a March birthday celebration (Anthony, my sil and I all have birthdays this month). We went to the same place last year (I call it the bad fish place) - I ordered broiled scallops thinking that would be a good low point entree - it came swimming in butter! So, my plan for tomorrow is to have 1 piece of bread, 1 drink (maybe just a glass of wine) and be very specific when I order. I also plan on doing a workout of some kind (probably weights) after my WW meeting which should help because there will be birthday cake at my sils afterwards. I hope to have enough banked to have a piece of cake - I don't want to get into the situation where I don't "give in" to temptation at my sils but come home and binge - especially with the PMS monster stomping around this week.

Have a great one!

Good Morning! Great night last night, I worked out without any pain and I felt SO GOOD when we were done, I could have done more. Stayed OP and that darn scale is getting back to where it should be.

Karen B-I would never think of leaving you girls, you have been such a source of inspiration for me. Maintenance is goiing to be a challenge in itself. 4:45 Not me! I am a night time exercise lady. Maybe if I could around 9am, but not that early. Good for you!!

Judy-Happy Birthday, sometime this month When you go out to dinner ask them to bake fish without butter/ or very little butter. I don't eat seafood, so not sure how that would be. Good Luck at weigh in tom. you have been so good at holding the PMS off, you should do great this week.

karen-I wish I knew what is up with me and these last few pounds, but it is certainly not for lack of wanting them gone Hopefully I will be out of my little slump (on the scale anyway) soon. I am definately back on track with my mind. I am glad your mothers surgery went well, it must be hard to be away but like you said 4/1 will be here soon. Great job on that cake, you should be very proud of yourself.

Carla-I hope your cat is doing much better. I hope the stress of the last few days has lightened up and you can get back on track. The did by the way is made by T. Marzetti's. If you add some chopped up jalapenos it is awesome.

Pat-Hope all is well with you.

Have a great weekend and HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY

Karen B, wow you deserve an angel for getting up sooo early to work out. I'd say you're back on program with a vengence!

Judy, you are such an inspiration to me! You always give such great advice and pep talks. Good luck with the dinner out. You may want to do what I do and order a couple of appetizers and a salad. I find I can get more food for less points that way without overindulging. Of course, I love shrimp cocktail, so that's a really safe appetizer, then I get one that's not so good, but in the appetizer portion it's not so bad either!

Michele, I'm happy to hear you have fully recovered and enjoying working out again. Those Marzetti dips are great, I have had one, maybe a veggie dip, that's really yummy nd low points.

Carla, how's Trotski doing?

Sneak peek is good today, great way to start the weekend. Just hope it keeps up! I'm back to exercising twice a day, 45 minutes total. Hope to work back up to an hour by next week. My fist meeting is Monday morning, so will check in and let you know how it goes when I get back. Everyone have a great OP weekend!

Hi everyone,

Karen C - Good for you for not eating any of that cake or any of the candy that goes in it. You deserve a huge pat on the back. I hope your mom is recovering nicely. I'm sure its hard to be away from her, but you'll be there soon. Its good that you're familiar with the hospital she's in and that you know the nursing care is good. I'm sure it helps you rest easier.

Karen B - Yay for you for getting up so early and getting on the treadmill. Sounds like you're back in the groove. Great!

Judy - Good for you for keeping that PMS monster in his place! I'll have to watch Oprah tonight (they rerun her at 11:00 pm in Chicago). I was thinking the other night that Anthony had a birthday coming up this month. I remember it because his birthday is almost 2 months exactly before Ana's. I'm sure the bad fish place will be able to accommodate you in how you want your dinner cooked. Enjoy your dinner and have fun with your family!

Michele - I know my grocery store carries that brand. I'll have to look for it. I'm glad to hear that your workout last night was pain free and that the scale is cooperating with your efforts.

Thanks to you all for asking after Trotski. The antibiotics actually started helping him some. We picked up the prednisone last night and the vet told us the results would be quick, so we're hoping to see improvement this weekend. We're getting a referral to a specialist, but we're going to see how the prednisone works before putting him through any testing for intestinal cancer. My victory today is that I stuck with my frozen dinner rather than go for a personal size pizza as I was tempted to do. I want to keep my points low today as John will probably want to go out to eat. The rest of the weekend shouldn't be too difficult. We're going to my mom's on Sunday. I've asked her to make macaroni stew, so I'll save some points in case she comes through for me.

Have a good day everyone and a great weekend!

Carla
