Can you look over this menu pls?

  • Hey everyone - I'm doing the "old" program and have about 90 lbs left to go - I'm stuck. Can someone look over this menu and tell me how to boost my weight loss without cutting below 29 pts? (Remember - I'm on the old points program, not plus).

This is not what I eat every day - just an ex:

    Breakfast:
    Coffee w/Splenda & 2 Tbl fat free creamer - 2
    Jimmy Dean D-Lites (210 cal) sand - 5
    Banana - 2

    Snack
    1 Cup fresh strawberries - 1

    Lunch
    WW 6-7 pt entree
    2 cups mixed salad (tom/let/cuke) 0
1 Tbl chick peas or black beans - 1
    2 Tbl FF dressing - 2

    Snack
    100 cal snack (pretzels/orange etc) - 2

    Dinner
    2 Cups mixed salad 0
1 cup fresh steam veg 0
3 oz broiled no skin chicken - 4
    2 Tbl FF dressing - 2

    Snack
    50 cal fudgecicle - 1

Total is usually 28 or 29 pts
I drink a GALLON of water a day

My loss is VERY slow - 1 lb a week even with evening walks...sigh.
  • I'm doing WW also, new points plus though.

At first glance, my thought is to skip the processed foods for breakfast and lunch (Jimmy dean and WW entree). Sure they're light but I would save them for occasional use and not use as a routine part of your meal plan.
  • I agree about the processed foods. If they are occasional, that's ok, but I find if I eat too much of that stuff my water retention is bad.

I know you are doing the old plan, but it seems like you aren't getting in all the healthy checks eg: dairy, oils etc.

I find that when I get in all the healthy checks I lose more.
  • I am also going to agree with the others about the processed foods.

I am also going to suggest that you cut out the "fat-free" and "sugar-free" foods. These labels are extremely misleading and might be doing more harm than good. Not only are there artificial ingredients in these foods, but they cause your brain to think that its deprived of sugar and may cause it to trigger cravings for higher sugar items.

IMO- Stick with all natural stuff, and try using real food ingredients like eggs and unprocessed meats.

What also helps with me is switching some flavors up: adding spicy ingredients to recipes and foods. Not only will this add some amazing flavors, but this will fill you up faster AND kick up your metabolism.
  • 1 pound a week is not "VERY slow" that's normal. I would be thrilled with 1 pound a week.

But you do have a lot of processed food in there. Maybe replace the processed breakfast sandwich with something you make on your own?

Pretzels have no nutritional value, maybe have an egg or cheese sticks?
  • I would be ecstatic to lose 1 pound a week! I am happy if I average 1/2 pound. People just differ in how fast they lose.

I agree with the others commenting about the food choices, but the main thing is that I think your amount of weight loss is fine.
