Default I'm a newbie-can you help me figure out the points?

Hi! I'm a newbie here..sort of. I've been a lurker for a while but this is my first post.

I haven't officially joined weight watchers, but I am trying to follow their points system. I believe I am supposed to have 22 points a day based on initial weight of 157. I have been counting points since the beginning of the year and have lost 7 pounds to date.

However, I am not sure if I am counting points correctly. I know what the formula is, but after I get the final number I am not sure if you round up or down.

Can I give an example?

For instance, I really like Quaker low sugar apples/cinn instant oatmeal for breakfast. The box says 1 packet has 110 calories, 3g dietary fiber, and 1.5g total fat. Using the above formula I come up with 1.725. Do I round up for 2 points?

Also, I like to eat 2 at a time so that it sticks with me. So do I add 1.725+1.725 for a total of 3.450 and then round that down to 3 points because it is under 3.5?

Or do I round the 1.725 up to 2 for each packet and have a total of 4 points?

Help! I am confused and don't know what I am doing.

Well, first, welcome!

Second, you're losing, so you're doing something right

Third, when doubling servings, it's best to actually calculate from the doubled nutritional value information (so instead of adding 1.72 to 1.72, calculate from 220 cals, 3 g fat, and 4 g of fiber - remember there is a cap on the amt of fiber that can be used to lower points, and this is 4g). As for rounding, figure out what you are comfortable doing. If I were doing this using the formula like you are, I would be inclined to count half points for things and round up or down to the half point unless it was like 1.1 or 1.9. But that's an assumption, as I don't actually do it this way!

In closing, see the second thing You're doing something right. Try not to stress about every little decimal point, to preserve your mental sanity

Hi again! Thanks for the insight. I had not even thought about doubling the calories etc before calculating the points. I totally overlooked that. Following that train of thought, my 2 oatmeal packets would be 4 points. That gives me a lot of clarity on how to figure things.

I also bought the 2009 ww kit off of ebay...I just want the information. I think I can do it on my own without paying a monthly fee. I haven't gotten it yet and I am anxiously awaiting for it to come.

I will check out the site with the calculator! Thanks!

It has been proven that those who attend meetings lose more weight and maintain the loss better than those who do it on their own. It sure worked for me.

That being said, there are also a lot of people who can and do hold themselves accountable on their own. I've never attended a single meeting and have no desire to. 98% of people (overall) gain at least some weight back being held accountable by a meeting or not.
