No more housework for me so I can easily start a new thread

Interesting a few of us have similar symptons as I did. Isn't it a shame that we did not know all these things earlier in life The very good thing is that we are open to change and learning more about healthy eating habits.
Glenda your grandson sounds gorgeous, your posts reflect that life is good for you before you know it those few extra pounds will be gone for good and you will be a happy, slim non-smoking grandma

My visit to the podiatrist was interesting. The x-rays of my big toes certainly show why I have so much pain walking. He was surprised I walked as much as I did. (tough breed )
If I was to have the operation done by him, I would get very little back from insurance and be up for close on $5000 I am not a person that believes in throwing their money away so I have made an appointment to see a orthopeadic foot surgeon, get his opinion and I know I will be fully covered with very little out of pocket expense.
DH was quite shocked at seeing my x-rays and for once I got a little sympathy I don't think it is quite as bad as it seems but I did not let on. DH is very fit and never has anything wrong with him (thank goodness ) however he does get somewhat impatient when I complain I cannot walk for hours on end like he does, now he can see why.
If I was to go ahead with the operation (I think I will) the next challenge will be how I can cope with being immobilised for 8 weeks The podiatrist says I cannot be left by myself all day. I do have the housekeeping staff that come every day. DH has also said that he will try and work from the apartment for some of the time.
So I will know more when I see the specialist.
Starting to settle in a little again. Things could be worse, I could have been in Beijing. The person who went instead of dh is not very happy there. Mind you with the awarding of the Olympic Games to Beijing the chances of us going are still pretty high as there is a lot of work in China.

Hi Everybody
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. I'm one of those lucky people whose birthday goes on for a full week.
Last Saturday DH and I went out with another couple for dinner and to the horse races. WELL................we didn't have reservations, thinking we didn't need them ( well we did) so I ended up eating a Denver sandwich and French Fries for my Birthday Dinner. LOL That was ok, tho, because we had a lovely evening and I came home $12.00 richer. On Sunday we went to the lake and my dear friend out there, had a birthday BBQ for me and invited my son DIL and of course my grandbabies. We had a great day, and the "itch" is gone from the Lake. YIPEE.
Today I went for lunch with Trudy
and another gal from our tea time group. Last year Trudy gave me a special pen and when I was in Maui last year I lost it at the Craft show. I was sad that I lost it and she knew that, so she managed to get the same pen again and gave it to me along with some other little treasures for my birthday. She is a sweet friend. Tomorrow, I go for lunch with another friend and then we may head over to one of the Casino's. You gals can see I have been getting my fair share of attenion this birthday.

Slavika sounds you have had a good time celebrating your birthday and had some winnings on the races as well

Peggy we are not exactly around the corner from one and other but thank you for your kind thoughts.

I went to the doctor this morning who was horrified that I would even consider having a podiatrist operate on my feet.
He has sent me now to the 'best' (aren't they all the best )foot orthopeadic surgeon in Melbourne. I have made the appointment for August 16, couldn't get in any earlier.
We'll see how we go from there. Now that an operation is probably reality, I am starting to have concerns about different things, my biggest concern is that I stumble to the 'loo' about 3 or 4 times during the night, how will I manage that when I am immobilised ? DD suggested to hire a commode so I can just roll out of bed and use that. No doubt I will manage but I cannot help but wonder about all the different things that I now do with full use of feet. It will only be for 8 weeks, if you say it quick it is not long at all

My eldest sister is arriving from Adelaide today, she has never been to Melbourne. I have a strange family but get on very well with this sister despite the fact we are VERY different and have completely different life styles. I am looking forward to having her stay albeit for only 2 days.

A language instructor was explaining to her class that in

French, nouns, unlike their English counterparts,are grammatically designated as masculine or feminine.

"House," in French, is feminine - "la maison."

"Pencil," in French, is masculine - "le crayon."

One puzzled student asked, "What gender is 'computer'?"

The teacher did not know, and the word wasn't in her French dictionary. So for fun she split the class into two groups, appropriately enough, by gender and asked them to decide whether "computer" should be a masculine or feminine noun.

Both groups were required to give four reasons for their recommendation.

The men's group decided that computers should definitely be of the feminine gender ("la computer"), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic.

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.

3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for possible later retrireview; and

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your pay check on accessories for it.

The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be masculine("le computer"), because:

1. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.

2. They have a lot of data but they are still clueless.

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you'd waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

I don't believe it....I typed out my nice long post and then decided to "dust" my keys a bit while talking to my DH before "sending" it. Well I sent it alright to cyberspace.
Lordy I do strange things sometimes, but that is just between you guys and me.
Maria Hi there. It's good you are getting the surgery situation looked into. Will you get both feet done at the same time and is it only the toes (I don't mean"only") but would you be able to put any pressure on your heels? I was thinking, if you are going to rent a "potty" maybe look into renting a really sturdy walker for the period of time you will be sort of laid up. I wondered also Maria, if maybe you could phone your doctor's nurse and see what some of the other people do when they have this surgery. Me with my teeth and you with your feet.....we'll both be just wonderful from top to bottom. Enjoy the visit from your sister. Remember a few posts ago when I was talking about sewing the jumper for the Princess you said something about getting some drafting paper. What were you going to do with that?
Glenda you sure are enjoying that little grandbaby of yours....we are very lucky to have them.
Peggy I see you are off again on a another little holiday, have a great time.
I went to lunch with three gals today and had a very nice time. We ended up going to the Casino after for about an hour and I won $4.00. It sure is noisy in there....and an hour is long enough. Tomorrow I go out for lunch and shopping with the friend I usually see on Wednesdays and on Thursday morning I am going to have my grandkids here while my Son and DIL golf 9 holes. I'll "talk" to you all tomorrow. Night.

Please pray for my friend's husband, Enrique Elizondo. He had a heart attack yesterday and is intensive care at Abilene Regional. He is not saved. His wife, Emily, has already expressed her thanks for any prayers on his behalf. All you intercessors out there----please spread the word.

Slavika - my what a party animal you are! Party, party, party. Just shows what a nice person you are that so many people want to show you how much they love you.

Maria - I had bunion surgery on both feet 3 years ago. It was the best thing I ever did! Not to have achey feet! Such a great thing! Those with normal feet have no idea what bad feet are like. And Slavika's idea of calling the nurse was a great one. There is always a way.

I got an e:mail today that had the line "Learn to think of life as a terminal illness because if
you do you will live it with joy and passion as it ought to be lived." That is such a good line. I know I have enjoyed life so much more than I used to and after talking to other cancer survivors, we all have this same feeling.

Hi Everybody
Well today was my last Birthday lunch. Maybe it's a good thing, because my shorts are getting a little snug. A while back my DH lost the "silver four leaf clover and chain" I bought him years and years ago when we were in Mexico. We didn't have all that much money in those days but I had gone to a jewellers and bought myself a silver bracelet and bought that for him and he wore it every day. We think the clasp on the chain broke and went down the shower drain with the charm. Well his birthday is at the end of this month and every time I am out shopping I look for a new 4 leaf clover for him in silver, thinking I would replace it. I check in every Mall and in every store that carries charms and none of them have one. Nobody seemed to want to make one either, in silver (I guess it's not worth it to them) EXCEPT today I found a young designer in a jewellery store that will make one up for me for only $30.00. He will make it plain, and about the size of a quarter. He'll have it ready for me next Wed. I was so excited. You wouldn't think it would be that hard to find a silver 4 leaf clover. I don't know how "lucky" they are, since DH lost his, but I know he felt really bad, so I hope it pleases him. It's hard thinking of stuff to buy for him....other then ANOTHER golf shirt or something. A couple of weeks ago, I also got him a "golf ball retriever". It also was very inexpensive, but he didn't have one and when we were in Maui he borrowed one from a friend to fish golf balls out of the water hazzards when he went on his walks around the golf course. I am very happy that I came up with two presents that are NOT shirts. LOL

Slavika - I know what you mean with the presents for your man. Leon has clothes and he's not a big clothes horse anyway. As long as he has jeans....anyway, the kids are always at a loss on what to get Dad, so they just get Lowe's credit cards. This is great because Leon can go into a Lowe's and just "look" for hours. Drives me crazy! But, of course, I can go into a dept. store and "look" for hours, but that is different, right? I just bought 2 tickets for a Neil Diamond concert in November in OKC. This will be a good present for us both since this is our type of music.

Hope the rest of you aren't sweltering in the summer heat. July-Aug. in OK is not fun. We are HEARTY FOLKS--yeah, right! Just get me from one air-conditioned place to another ASAP!
