Default Clean Milk

I know that everyone's definition of what is/is not clean is slightly different, but I can't find an answer about coconut and soy milk. Are either of them considered clean? Why/why not? And which brands (if any) are?

Thanks so much!

I'm not sure if you equate clean with whole foods but I tend to believe that soy milk I make is nearly a whole food. I also use the pulp in cooking so I don't really lose anything by making the soy beans into soy milk. Similarly, if I made almond milk, I'd concern it nearly whole foods.

Either way, I try to eat on the whole foods side, but I'm not 100%. I do buy soy and almond milk. Almond milk is a bit too expensive to make. I don't care for the coconut milk beverage in the store so I don't buy that. Canned coconut milk which is just coconut pulp and coconut water is pretty close to be a whole food.

I'm not sure if it helps but I guess it would depend on your definition of clean.

I've tried almond and soy milk, they are good but I'm sticking with organic cow's milk right now because I find it weird that the vegan options taste sweet. To me the idea of milk tasting sweet like a piece of cake or something is just odd! I mean cow's milk is not sweet at all. Also on the subject of goat's milk, why doesn't it get as bad of a rep as cow's milk. I know it's hard to find but is goat's milk better for you then cow's milk?

Are you buying unsweetened versions? I only buy unsweetened versions of soy and almond milk and they aren't sweet. And when I make soy milk at home, I don't add sweetener.

nelie, do you ferment the soy milk, or just use it straight? Am intrigued...

Kjntlde, I tend to avoid any of the 'milks' that have vegetable oil added for the consistency, and I'm pretty careful about which preservatives I'll accept as well. In general, the same rule applies for most things we buy in the store 'the fewer ingredients, the more likely it's ok'.
