11 best foods you aren't eating?

  • Looks like we know what we're doing:

    Beets
    Cabbage
    Swiss chard
    Tumeric
    Cinnamon
    Sardines
    Pumpkin
    Pumpkin seeds
    Pomegranate juice
    Dried plums (prunes)
    Frozen blueberries
  • Well, I eat a lot of really healthy food, but I'm not getting: beets & cabbage (well, not much), chard, sardines, pomegranate juice, or prunes. I've been thinking of adding 1/2c of pomegrantate juice first thing in the morning, because I do yoga for over an hour first thing, and I feel a little weak with nothing, but can't do it with much in my stomach.

But I do get lots of spinach (have to try chard some time), curry at least every other week (any ideas how else to add more turmeric?), and lots of cinnamon.

I use a supplement, Turmeric Force, from New Chapter. Dr. Andrew Weil recommends it for it's anti-inflammatory properties and I have mild arthritis. It's easier for me than trying to include turmeric in my diet.
  • I have a pomegranite tree loaded with fruit
I usually just eat the seeds and give a lot of them away. Methinks I'm going to have to finally go out and get that juicer
  • Of the items on that list, beets are the only one I never ever eat. Can't stand them.
  • I eat lots of canned pumpkin (use it in baked goods and other desserts), lots of cinnamon, and lots of swiss chard (I grow it and often just toss the young leaves into salads raw, and my SO won't eat spinach so I use swiss chard in any recipe that calls for spinach). I also do pretty good on cabbage and tumeric (I have a number of ethnic recipes that use turmeric).

I go through phases with beets--sometimes I eat a lot of beets, sometimes I don't. It all just depends on what's on the menu for the week. Same thing for sardines and pumpkin seeds.

I never drink beverages with calories and I can't believe there's not a way to get the same benefits pomegranate juice offers that involves eating actual food (like, a pomegranate, for example). Besides, my blood pressure does NOT need to be any lower; it would be good if it were a little higher.

Same for dried fruit--I just see it as a waste of precious calories. How is that a plum wouldn't have the same antioxidents as a prune, if they are both the same fruit? I eat lots of plums.

I don't eat frozen blueberries, but I eat fresh berries every day. I have to believe fresh is better than frozen.

Here are a couple of great recipes that use Tumeric:
    - Moroccan Chickpea Chili with Chicken
    - Chicken with Chickpeas
  • Raw beets in a salad
Rarely do beets. Have never tried raw beets in a salad. Maybe that's the way to slip them in.
  • Beets are my all time favorite food. I eat whole cans of them as a snack.
  • I love beets. I love making a raw beet salad. I'm good with everything on the list except sardines... eww
  • Why in the world have I never, ever tried beets? What's wrong with me? I keep meaning to (Swiss Chard as well), but it's like I have a mental block or something.

Cabbage I eat very often. Pumpkin and seeds rarely. I wouldn't know tumeric if I stepped over it. I don't ever eat pomegranate. I love cinnamon and use it lots. I love prunes, but don't eat them too much. It's one of those foods that I can easily overeat. Never had a frozen blueberry, but eat fresh ones very frequently.

I have never eaten a sardine and don't ever care to.
  • I had tumeric tonight. I love pomegranates. I could go on a pomegranate only diet if it was affordable
