Default How to properly weigh your food?

I am trying to figure out how to measure food. Here are my examples:

Cereal: 1 cup of raisin bran. Use a measuring cup or go by what the grams are on the label?

Pasta: 1 cup cooked. Do you squish it in a measuring cup or do you weigh it and figure out how many oz or grams you are eating?

Ice Cream: 1/2 cup. Do you pack it into the measuring cup like brown sugar?


Liquids and protein (chicken breasts) are easy, it's the dry or bulky things that are throwing me.

Any tips or tricks would be great! Thank you!

i was told to use the oz on the box for the pasta. Also there is a web site that shows it comes out just right. I can't recall her but she's here.

so you weigh the dry pasta in a bowl or lose if it's spaghetti. That's what we do in WW.

Cereal: We can use a measuring cup, but if you really want more acuuracy, go for the in the bowl way. Tear the bowl, then add your cereal.

Liquids, I use a measuring cup.

meat: I use my scale, just slap it on there, lol but that's just me.

Ice cream. I would use the bowl on scale. too much wiggle room there.

The problem with the pasta is when I make a pot for the whole family and have to portion out mine. If it was just me it'd be much easier. I'll check the site!

then you weigh yours on the plate. don't stuff it, just weigh out 4 oz

I would weigh the pasta. There are too many different shapes & sizes to rely on a measuring cup - orzo would fit much tighter than some big curley cue thing, but their weights would be a lot different.

I measure cereal.

I don't eat ice cream. Well, only my dad's homemade and that's only once every couple of months and the serving is about 3 tablespoons.

I would invest in some good scoops, like restaurants use, if you can. They come in 1/2 cup, 1/4 cup, etc, even in tablespoons. Easier to use, for me, even when I am in a hurry, I will use them. (don't need to "pack" or scrape the food back out) Really easy fast portion control.
That site was pretty cool for the pasta.

hmmm, this is interesting. I measure my pasta after it's cooked in a measuring cup. As far as meat, i weigh it after it's cooked as it's lighter.

yes, I do the meat after it's cooked. Can't slice raw turkey... lol

Delta, check the site I referenced. I think you ate a lot of pasta.

she shows you how to measure the pasta, dry is 2 oz

after cooked it's 4 ounce and that's what we should be having, at least me any way. maybe you can have more but I just do the 2 oz.
