Another death due to obesity..

Hi Everyone,

I posted a few weeks ago about how I was doing my clinicals at a Trauma Unit and had to clean and move a 600lb lady who had passed away due to complications brought on by her obesity. Some of you may have read my post but those of you who are new may want to find my post about this woman and read to understand the full story.

After my hospital clinicals I had to do my ambulance rides and at the end of my first shift my crew and I were dispatched to pick up another morbidly obese woman who was to be taken to a nearby dialysis center. When we got there I took her blood pressure and it was 50/22, I knew there was something wrong but we transported her anyhow because she needed fluid removed. Once we arrived at the dialysis center she became worse and I could tell her breathing was labored, her blood pressure continued dropping so the nurses had to administer medication which helped a little. We stayed for a good 2 hours to make sure we didn't have to transport her to a hospital. After that I hadn't heard anything but was curious what ended up happening because this lady was really cool. Her husband was the issue, he would bring her McDonald's EVERYDAY even when her doctor clearly advised against it. This man was healthy and even bragged to us about how he runs 12 miles daily and spends 2 hours on his Eliptical but for some reason I think he may have wanted to keep her like this. Like the first lady, this one was in her mid 50's and was close to 600lbs. I received a text today from one of the crew members letting me know she passed away a few days ago and her funeral was Friday.

This is a sad reality, obesity is killing people daily :(
RIP Rose

very sad very sad.

That is really sad. RIP, both ladies.

I've got to admit, fear of death - fear of disabling the undertakers - is a large part of why I keep on plodding.

Kim, do you have a link to your other story. I'm one of the new people that would like to read about it.

How many of you did it take to move her? I would think more than just yourself and your partner..... no?

And sadder yet , family members who refuse to understand the seriousness of this and cause further problems by bringing in unhealthy food.

I'll go look for it and paste the link here! It took 4 of us, 3 guys and myself. I don't think I'll EVER forget that night for as long as I live.

it would be interesting if someone did a study on what motivates the people in their lives to keep bringing them food.

tytbody 12-16-2010 06:21 PM

they think that's love. Just like people bring dope to their wives and vice versa. It's not love.

This is really sad....but death by any means...is sad:(

Morbidly obese people almost ALWAYS have an "enabler"...

Once a person's mobility is restricted, they NEED an enable to access the unhealthy food in large quantities and at a heafty cost!

Not sure what's more depressing, thinking about what kind of pain could lead a person to eat their way to 600 lbs...or thinking about the person who HELPS them?:(

I read an article way back about a community of men who seek out morbidly obese women as a sort of fetish. I know it sounds weird, but they have online communities where they almost compete to see how big they can make their partners. It's a completely unhealthy, codependent relationship, and the male partner is almost always of normal weight and height. I believe the terms they use are "feeder" and "feedee," but I may be misremembering. I was in total, jaw-dropping shock reading this. I'll try to find a link, though it was years ago that I read it. Has anyone else heard of this?

I can believe it traceriffic. it will probably be a show one of these days once they find enough them to make a series.

They even have racks of x-rated porn with obese woman so..... it's out there.

I couldn't believe it either. I just googled and found that the wikipedia entry on fat fetishism has categories for feeders/feedees and explains the relationship/dynamic a little bit. So bizarre and sad.

Didn't mean to thread hijack. Sorry to hear this sad news, Kimberly. :(

Hijack all you want!!! LOL! That's just disgusting, I didn't know fetishes existed like that. It's completely disturbing, disgusting, awful, ignorant, and anything else you'd like to throw in there..
