Default Sssslllllooooowwwww!

I have been on WW for about six weeks now and while I really like the program I am getting a little frustrated because the weight is coming of soooooo veeerrrrryyyyyy ssssllllloooowwww!

I have lost about 14 pounds but this week am struggling with motivation (calories in part - I am actually doing very well with exercise). So, how do you keep yourself motivated?

14 pounds in 6 weeks is outstanding ! About 2 pounds a week is considered average and that will vary by the individual.

yeah, 6 weeks and 14 lbs is not something to be thought of as "slow". If you are struggling with Motivation, think about and perhaps write down WHY you are doing this and WHAT the most important things are for you right now. You are the only one who can keep yourself motivated and committed - if you remind yourself why you are doing this and set small weekly goals, it will create a feeling of empowerment and control.

For example: if you are struggling this week with tracking, set yourself a goal to track minimum 5 days. Then as you go through each day, you'll think about what you are eating and the points, because you will want to stay within your points range. Or if you are struggling with water, set a goal to drink 8 glasses of water per day and have a check off sheet where you can SEE your progress. Use any and all tools you have to stay on track.

You've got the control and the power - you can do it! Please get yourself out of the mindset that it's going slow though. The slower and steadier, the better. You want it to STAY off right? This is not a race!

Your right. After I wrote that and went back to bed (it was really early in the morning here) I thought to myself, "14 pounds in six weeks is a little over two pounds a week...which is not too bad." I guess that is what watching the biggest loser will do to ya!

I am struggling with motivation, though and I am thinking it goes back to tracking. When I am tracking I do great - when not, not so much. So, I will try your advice, Renee and make small goals for myself.

thanks for the advice!

I'm not on Weight Watchers but I thought I would chime in anyway. I track my weight on a spreadsheet so I know that my average weight loss rate is 1.3 pounds a week. That sounds SUPER slow, huh......way slower than the over 2 pounds a week that you're seeing.

But.....I've been at this since January. And at 1.3 pounds a week, I've now lost 55 pounds. It has made a HUGE difference in every way. I feel better, I'm healthier, I look better; I can't think of a single negative. So even those measly 1.3 pounds a week add up into real weight loss if you give it time.

Be patient. Keep at it. You are doing really, really well and will be successful if you keep at it. Remember that The Biggest Loser is a TV show; people don't lose that much in real life under normal circumstances and many of those people who have lost their weight under the artificial circumstances haven't kept it off. So you are doing this the smart way; the slow, steady, realistic way.

Tonia, good for you for losing 14 pounds in 6 weeks!! I am at 3 weeks on weight watchers and have lost 6.4 pounds. Last week, I didn't lose and didn't gain, but I hope to be able to lose about 2 pounds a week like you! You are doing great. Remember that losing it this way is the safe and healthy way to lose weight and maintain the loss in the long run.

I feel the same way as you about watching biggest loser. It sets you in the mind set that anything under 10 pounds a week just isn't good enough, but we have to realize that while it is "reality TV," it surely isn't reality!!!

Keep on going and you will get to your goal before you know it!! Remember while tracking it is OK to use your weekly points allowance on the days that you feel like you need to eat more. I am a volume eater and feel like I need to eat a lot, so I recently started to eat Jello again. It feels like I am eating a lot, but for only 20 calories( ZERO POINTS for 1 Serving!!!)

Keep going, you are doing Great!!

Thanks for the encouragement!

I have no thoughts of quitting - just getting a little frustrated with it all. I think once I get back to tracking again it will be motivating. I like how you are looking at it since January, windchime and 55 pounds! Wow!

Thanks again!

14lbs in 6 weeks is super speedy - that's more than 2 lbs/week!

Now me, I'm slow. I've averaged 0.4lbs / week. But you know what, I'm losing. And that's what counts, right?

I agree with the other ladies!

14 lbs in 6 weeks is increadible!

It's really important to keep in mind that the slower the weight comes off the more permanent it tends to be. The quicker it comes off the more likely you are to gain it back!

I think you're doing just fine!

Tonia, I always feel the exact same way! But I have to remind myself that down is down. That is my mantra. As long as I am trending downward, that is the most important part. Also, I think, well, maybe I only lost 1 pound this week, but I will never be at (whatever weight) again. That is how I stay positive.

Also, I agree about watching the Biggest Loser... when those guys lose 17 or 18 pounds in one week, I think man, if I could lose that much in one week... But it is fun when they only lose 3 pounds in a week where I have lost that much at home, doing weight watchers. And I didn't even have Jillian yelling at me through a last-chance workout!

Good luck!
