My husband bought a wii for the kids a few weeks ago. I protested the expense (we bought it used, so it wasn't as bad as one would think) as well as the need for my two kids to have yet another reason to sit in front of the TV or video games.
I guess I am not enlightened about movement being part of this and I have seen the kids standing while using it, at least.
What simple things can be done for a person who has never used a gaming system in her life? I have resisted for years any desire for electronic amusements. I do sewing, quilting, crafts and tend to not take an interest in electronic stuff.
Is it easy to use? Are you really not bored?

Hi Derry, the Wii fit is not just your typical sit on your butt video game its a great work out and for someone who hates excercise it helps alot it evaluates your posture and makes you aware of your center of balance tracks my weight loss and BMI its a great incentive to keep working out when I first started using I couldn't do the one mile run and now the avanced run is getting too easy. I love the kick boxing and the bicycling yoga I have bent like that since I was a kid there is nothing like the Wii fit plus to help a person get excersize

I love my Wii Fit and have put the Plus on my list to Santa lol.
I haven't been using it much because I joined the gym at the end of July and have been going there most days, but the other day I couldn't make it for my planned swim so decided to get the Fit out and have a play. I LOVE the little man telling my how much I've lost since I last played lol, and I had good fun working out. I did some step and super hula, as well as a couple of muscle workouts and yoga poses and it was nice to do something different from the gym, so I think I'm going to plan to have a Wii day next week instead of one of my gym days and see how that goes.

Thanks for the info, maybe I'll have my kids show me what to do and at least try it.

Feeling very sad today due to the shootings in TX and Orlando, FL. If any of you are effected, please know how sad everyone in our country is. I shall never understand, never.

Derrydaughter, have you tried it yet????

I think the Wii is fabu! Obviously, its not as intense as running for 60 minutes on a treadmill but it's definitely better than sitting there watching the tube with NO exercise whatsoever!

I have the plus and I love it. I have nothing to compare it to mind you but from what i've been hearing there are more games on the plus!

I think I might invest in the resistance bands soon! I think it would be really cool if Nintendo could come out with some type of stepper that they could incorporate in the Wii. That would be super cool!

i sold my wii fit game on ebay, and bought the fit plus game (already had the board from when we got the wii fit original last year). and i love the new fit plus! its awesome.
i found online the other day that Everlast has step risers designed to go under the wii board to make it 3" taller - so its more challenging and more like a real step. the set is about $25 - which could help increase the intensity of step aerobics game and such. also everlast has teh 2 lb dumbbells to fit on teh remote and nunchuck - to make it more of a workout with weight training think those are like $20 or so too. i plan to get both.
i love the boxing - i do the 10 minute boxing on the fit plus (or original) and give it all my efforts and burn about 250 calories in that 10 minutes, so its an awesome workout. my arms are a bit sore, but i know i worked them pretty good lol

Thanks so much for your concern for our fellow soldiers. It has been scary and has shaken all of us in the community to the core...I think many of us are still in disbelief....but they have upped security all around the base, and have soldiers all over post at the doors of the buildings to make sure we feel safe - even at the on post schools. which makes me feel better about driving around on post and taking my daughter to school each day - since we live on post and my hubby is currently deployed. Luckily my hubby was able to contact me shortly after it happened so he knows we are safe, and are counting down the weeks till he returns home.
Oh btw, I live on the base where this happened....our surrounding towns have been wonderful about donating blood for those in need and helping and being supportive any way they can.

Army Wife, our hearts and prayers are with you. Yesterday in church, we has special prayers for the people, the families, the victims. Also, my family attended a Veterans Day concert in the afternoon and a moment of silence was observed before the playing of the National Anthem. Our speakers referred to the bravery and sacrifice of the day. Also, I am the NH coordinator for Home of the Brave Quilts, we make a quilt for the family of each military loss since 9/11 and we are already busy making quilts for the families who lost loved ones.

Getting back to the topic, I do want to say that there are obviously extra add-ons that one needs to buy for the wii in order to do certain things. We have a basic wii, we can do tennis, bowling and simple things like that.
What are the best add ons and how expensive?

the Wii fit personal trainer is great and the resitance band and nunchuck and balance board we got ours at BestBuy.I don't remember exact price but you can go online and look. I bought my first treadmill this weekend so I will be mixing it up between the Wii, bowflex and the treadmill so I wont get bored because I am the type if exercise gets boring I wont do it.

The Wii fit board set us back about 100$. That included the board and the new Wii Fit Plus game! So far that's all I have. One day I probably will head over to Walmart or Besbuy and look for the resistence bands!
