Default Lifting at home?

Hello!
I've been dieting and doing cardio for about a month now, and I'd like to start some "weight training."
I can't afford a gym membership (plus I'm moving soon, plus I wouldn't go...) so I was hoping to just buy a few [small] hand weights or use family-sized cans of soup, or something.

Can someone help me with some basic, beginner exercises that I can start doing each night? Mostly I'm hoping to get my arms/shoulders going first, and then finding some creative ways (squats or something) to get my legs in, too. Or maybe once I get going then I'll want to join a gym!

Thanks in advance for helping me out.
Emily.
