Default Spiked Oatmeal

I've been putting protein powder in my oatmeal. The recipe I have is to put it in dry oatmeal and water and then nuke it. Does anybody do this stovetop? I think the microwave way is mushy and it reminds me of instant. Blech, but it'll do.

What I'd LIKE to do is make a lot of oatmeal at once and then heat it up as I go along. Will the protein powder hold it's nutrition after being heated twice? Is it even holding up the first time?

Depends on what kind of pp you are using. A blend of protein sources works best for heating. I have several muffin or bar types recipes that use it for baking. I think I posted them in the recipe thread here. If not, I will

I microwave mine but in a different order -- maybe that would make a difference in the texture? I use 1/2 cup oatmeal, about 1 1/4 cups of water and microwave for three minutes. THEN I stir in a scoop of PP (so it never gets heated). I can't help you with the cooking in advance part -- sorry!

I make mine the same way Meg does. I mis-read your post, Jennifer.

I do find that the days when I have it for breakfast, I'm fighting cravings all day. I used to love it, but have pretty much stopped eating in in favor of more chewable protein. Like endless egg-whites, or oatmeal pancakes.

Jenn,

I make a big batch of steel cut oats at a time. I add 1 cup oats to 3 cups boiling water on the stove top. I then cook on meduim for 20 minutes. I store it in the fridge and warm up a serving at a time in the microwave.

My fave breakfast:

1/2 c oats (put in a little water when reheating for this recipe)
1 scoop chocolate protein powder (this is a half serving of pp of the type I use)
1/2 cup cottage cheese
1/2 cup strawberries or blueberries

I heat the oats for 2 minutes, mix in protein powder to heated oatmeal (you'll need the extra water in the oatmeal for a good consistency)
add CC and berries and stir

Something I would never have imagined before this WOE and something I couldn't imagine not eating now, it is quick and I eat it not only for breakfast but for other meals as well when there is nothing else around or I crave comfort food.

Jennifer, have you tried your oatmeal just soaking in milk, soy milk or mix milk and PP then add the uncooked dry oatmeal... Sounds funny but that's what I do now it tastes very yummy. I'll add a tsp of sunflower seeds and a tsp of ground flax, vanilla too, with splenda taste like granola ...

No, I've never heard of it that way. How long do you soak it? I have poured it in with All Bran before and eaten it that way. It's still basically raw, but it's good. I got that from my husband who eats Muesli in plain yogurt each morning. Do you actually soak yours until it is soft?

Jennifer, I let mine sit only about the time it takes to make and eat my omelette... but my g/f lets it sit all night in the fridge, I ALWAYS forget to try it that way... A long time ago a BB told me he let his sit in apple juice overnight, personally I don't think I'd like that version, I prefer to eat the whole fruit rather than juice...

I use regular Oatmeal (NOT instant, the 5 minute cooking kind) and put a scoop of Evopro Berrylicious protein powder in it. Use hot water out of the coffee machine then microwave it for 20 seconds. It's creamy and tastes really really good.
If I make it at home I'll cook the oatmeal on the stove and then add the Evopro just at the end, not cooking all the water out of the oatmeal so the Evopro has some water to be absorbed in. If I have them I'll throw in a handfull of frozen mixed berries too. It's very good and I look forward to eating this every day!
