Default Advice for stretching with iliotibial band syndrome

Hi guys.

I'm in the gym a lot (5 x a week). I routinely do squats, jogging elliptical work, leg presses, etc. I noticed that I now have iliotibial band syndrome (its a pain that runs along the outer side part of the knee, above and below the joint.

Would any of you recommend good stretches to loosen up that area and relieve pain?

Thanks in advance.

I had it bad last year. I did "stretch max" for a few weeks and it hasn't come back since! (the one done withOUT the ball)

You may be able to find it on TV soon. Good luck!

I had IT Band issues from running to much to soon.

Purchase a foam roller ($20) and use it along with some IT Band Yoga Stretches. Be diligent and do it every day. The foam roller is also good for your back (feels wonderful!)

You can look up Foam roller exercises on YouTube, and try google -ing some yoga for IT Band syndrome.

Thanks soo much

this seemed to work wonders! There are like a zillion You tube videos showing how to use the foam roller. Thanks

Second, third, and fourth on the foam roller. This is what was recommended to me in PT and DID work wonders.

Yup. Foam roller is definitely the way to go. First time you use it, it's going to be incredibly painful. But keep at it and it will get better and pretty soon you will be putting all your weight on it.
