I hoped for a swim yesterday, and I did go - but one look at the pool made me turn on my heels and return to the office. I hate when people clutter my pool.

Cardio last night.
Shannon, here is a picture of the new Merrells:
I settled for those on the right, with the burgundy trim. I really wanted to keep the other pair, as they have a lot of mesh and I thought they would breathe better (especially in summer) but the other pair won as it had a much better arch support. With the custom orthotics in, the shoes are really very comfortable and my heel is happy.

Speaking of the injuries - I remember that terrible accident from the Beijing Olympics - that was very scary and I cannot even imagine the pain the poor guy was in.
Mel, the "iron necklace" was funny - when you read about it.

Kim,
Seeing that you checked in, I peeked at your log to see if there are any new updates. Regarding the commercial you mentioned: it actually has several different variations, all equally stupid. The ending is always the same - the person, having been assured that HFCS is perfectly natural and good in moderation, happily bites bites into a lollypop or whatever the commercial features. It made my blood churn, too. They have been on for the last couple of weeks.

Good afternoon all.

Pat - I haven't even tried a one legged deadlift yet, but figure I will hate them too. How do you feel so far about this round of the program?

Susan - good job getting your lifting in!

Mel - How are you feeling today? Better I hope.

Kim - glad you are recovering from your cold. The marathon miles program sounds pretty cool for DS.

Alena - better arch support good. Crowded pool, not so good.

I got my new running shoes last week and have gone out with them once, going again tonight. We went up a size this year over last year, so I'm hoping that solves my crowded toe box on the right foot problem without making the left foot feel too loose.

Except for the one-legged deadlifts, I liked it pretty well. I really got into the LB2 with its zillion squats. The UB stuff was good as well. I bailed on today's though in favor of a lunch date.... I'll do it along with the cardio tomorrow. It's been so nice out I'm tempted to haul my bike out of the barn and ride to the gym and back (about 4.5 miles) as my cardio. Wonder how the air in the tires is.....

Alena - must be new shoe week! My DH came home with a new pair today. He'd gone in to have his gait assessed awhile back, and actually tried on various shoes, but didn't buy them then. He gets New Balance for his wide feet. This store is run by a physical therapy group, and also carries Keen shoes. They have a dusty rose pair I'm coveting. Like I need more shoes

Kim - good to see you. Bummer on the cold. I can't recall when I last had one. Love your "baseball as cardio" workout.

Mel - hope you had an easy recovery workout.

Hi Kim, sorry to hear you have been sick. My theory is that when we are strong and healthy we can fight off the "little" bugs, leaving the big ones that bite hard. I'm hardly ever sick now (knocking on my wooden table) but the few times that I have been in the last few years have been horrendous. Hope the snorfles leave soon.

Nice shoes, Alena!

Shannon and Pat- try the one legged deadlift! I enjoy them.

Our recovery workout was a grueling metcon (metabolic conditioning). Burpees, box jumps, KB swings and mule kicks. Just awful. Gearing up for another hero workout on Saturday. This one looks dreadful and to make it even more dreadful, the hero for whom it is named was engaged to one of our members. You can read about it here. I may cry through the whole thing, if I can even finish it.

One good effect of my crazy schedule is that I have very little time for eating other than my planned and packed meals Haven't gotten on the scale, but I realized my clothes are loose!!!!

Hello to everyone else who is frantically busy!

Mel

I like one-legged deadlifts too.

7 am here and the windows are plastered with snow. ??

For added fun and excitement, try the one-legged deadlifts standing on the ball side of a Bosu.

Midwife - Yeah, I'll give that a shot.. I can finally do a pistol squat on the round side of the Bosu without falling down, so the one legged deadlift should be a breeze. Yeah. Maybe I'll wait until the 3" bruise on my right forearm heals first...

Mel - crazy schedule does make it hard to snack! on the loose clothes!

Birch - snow? Again, I'm so glad I live in the south...

Pat - I say go for the bike! That would be fun cardio with fresh air included! A win-win. Definitely check the tires first, though...

5.26 mile run at the park yesterday. Well, walked more than I like but am still getting used to the new shoes. This was only my second time out on them. DH met me there after I got started and did 3.25 miles on his own. He is doing a great job with the running, and is feeling really good. That makes me happy.

Good day everyone!

So I don't think I actually do my deadlifts the right way. I get very mixed between the Romanian DL, the conventional DL & the stiff-legged DL... I'm looking for various links to see the motion and the link from stumpuous is broken. Anybody have any suggestions for a good one? I get so many results from YouTube sometimes that I don't know which way to go...

Hm... scratch that last post, I think I have done a one-legged deadlift before, I just didn't call it that... It felt like yoga with a dumbbell as I remember.

Shannon,
Check out this site - I just bookmarked it the other - somebody posted in another thread - I think Mel or Lydia? It's a good site for showing how an exercise should be done. I think a few of them also showed how NOT to do them.

I just got back from the pool, I swam for 40 minutes. I tried for about 35 minutes to give it some effort and swim as fast as I can (at a speed I can consistently sustain) and then the last 5 minutes I took if easy.

I think I am done with my March exercise. There is no way I will be able to do anything tonight. I have to clean up the house and pack - I am flying to the US for the long weekend. I tried to get some upper body done before my yoga on Sunday and I have a sore spot in my right delt that bothers me a bit. I will NOT self-medicate with peanut butter.

And exactly how would you reach the sore spot to spread the PB? Have a great weekend.

Well my problem with the one-legged deadlift, and the pistol squat, and the bosu while we're at it, is that my balance stinks. I really need to work on just learning to balance on one leg before adding in an actual exercise!

Did a great UB workout today. It's another day, though not as warm as yesterday.

It finally stopped raining here and I saw the sun for the first time in a week Good-bye March!

We did a half an hour of yoga and pilates after our CrossFit WOD today. I know I need it but.... I'm sorry, it just feels like slow TORTURE! and the instructor in this tiny little walking anatomy chart with a Russian accent. Every time she said "legs" I thought she was saying "lats" and I could fathom how I was going to straighten my lats!

Food has been on. I know there is a hand-made chocolate filled egg hidden with my name on it somewhere (I watched it being made) and I'm not sure I even want to taste it.

Alena- I can sooooo relate to self medicating with peanut butter. I stopped buying it a year ago.

Pat:
You medicate with the PB from within.

Mel,
It's actually your term - 'to self-medicate' - I loved it so much I had to adopt it.
I am laughing at you classifying yoga and Pilates as torture. LOL

The sore spot is even sorer after the swim. I think I will try some Arnica.
Gotta run and finish packing. Of course, my cell phone minutes expired (I am on pay as you go plan) and I won't have time to buy a new card. Hrrrmp. Well, I don't get any coverage in the States anyway.

March was kind to me. I am down 4 lbs. I haven't seen the number on the scale go south in a looooooooong time.

Good nite, everybody.

PB Actually, I'm quite good with it these days. Measured serving on my 1/2 ww bagel and I'm done for the day.....

Hope your sore spot gets better Alena. So annoying. Have a fun weekend.
