Default Elbow lock during tricep extension

Hi Everyone,

Whenever I do tricep extensions lying down, my right elbow tends to lock up when I try to bring the weight back up to a vertical position, and it can hurt! I always end up having to readjust my elbow so I can finish the movement. Does anyone know why this might be happening? Im 25 years old and Ive been exercising for awhile, and I dont lift that heavy. I am only using 5lb dumbells right now because my triceps are pretty weak. Any tips? Thanks

Are you taking the weights down to above your head or toward your forehead?
I would do them more as a 'skull crusher' than too high over your head. Sometimes just a slight adjustment will help.
How about doing them standing? Does it lock up then?

Eek! I'm not a PT, but maybe you should consult with one. That just does not sound right.

There are many, many ways to work your tri's, tho. Do you have access to a stand-up pulley machine? There should be a diagram on the machine that maps out how to work tri's right on there.

If not, you can work your tri's by doing other exercises besides laying down. Do you want me to list them? IDK if you've tried any of them and have had the same prob...

But I guess my point is, every BODY is different. If your limitation is not due to injury and just due to how you are built, try all the different methods of tricep exercises to find your niche.
