Default Article about OCPs and muscle building

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30266121/

Interesting article combining two of my interests.

Interesting.

I have taken OCPs for years, and I always have this little voice in the back of my head wondering about side effects...

Well, that is interesting. It does make sense as we start women on OCPs if there is PCOS related hormone changes or increased testosterone levels. We know to treat those symptoms with hormones. It is reasonable that they have the same effects with hormonally well regulated women also. I love evidence based practice!!

The epic weight struggle (see, oh I don't know, every post since 7 months ago) began almost exactly 1 month after I started BCP, and I am pretty sure I started wasting muscle at that time. Interesting.

I think this is so interesting. Now, NuvaRing provides lower circulating estrogen levels than OCPs, and continuous use of NuvaRing even less than traditional use....so I am even happier with my fabulous NuvaRing. I think it would be interesting to study muscle building for women on Nuva vs. Ocps vs. Ortho Evra.....such a good idea...I think I will go lie down until that idea passes.

Well, there just one more reason for me not to take BC. My goal is to stay away from it from now on.

So glad I decided to not use OCPs to help with PCOS and went the natural route. DH had already been "fixed" so BC wasn't an issue for us.

You are making me want to suggest a study. But from my perspective it would contain a PCOS slant. I think I will talk to our repro-endo guy and our residency director. I'll get back to you chicks.

yes. I remember you mentioned that. huh. our bodies don't nec. cooperate do they? I am pretty happy on yaz but have started having migraines again. So I decided to do continuous use (not stop active pills for withdrawal bleed) and finally get a long term sinus infection treated but worry about the link between ocp, migraines and increased risk of stroke.

this thread is bumming me out.
