Meds for nauseous?

  • Okay, so I can't spell! lol. Just a quick question...doc gave me a prescription for pepcid liq and it's $200+ and my insurance won't cover it. Don't really have a problem right now but I would like something on hand. Anyone have suggestions other than pepcid? Can't believe it would cost that much when you can buy it over the counter! Grrr.

  • Perhaps ask your doctor about Zofran or Phenergan I've taken both for nausea and my insurance (BCBS) covers it no problem. I have never had WLS though so I don't know if you need something different.
  • Thanks Michelle
  • I would call your doc and ask if there is an alternative med you can take that isn't so pricey. When I was approximately 3-4 weeks post-op, I was hit terribly with nausea where I could hardly eat/drink. Each day I thought I'd get better, but only got worse to the point I had to be hospitalized for severe dehydration for 3 days (and it wasn't fun!!). Zofran was the ONLY thing that got my nausea under control....however, it is EXTREMELY expensive because it's a med frequently given to chemotherapy patients. It's good to have something on hand, just in case, so check with your doctor. Wishing you continued safe and healthy healing!!! God Bless...

    Just me...Robin
  • On the cheap side of things is Phenergan which is available in suppositories, pill, and injection. I have no idea about the cost of zofran as after several back to back surgeries I just went to my doc for injections so it was just included in my after care for surgery. I know when I was on phenergan suppositories I think my copay was 5 bucks. I have also taken compazine but that was awhile ago and it didn't do too much for me if I remember correctly.
